Opinionated ladies come here please!

So I was going to post this on my cake topper question but I was afraid no one would go back and look. lol  Someone brought up that they are getting a monogram in icing on their cake so they aren't having a topper. The inspiration picture I have picked out has one on there too and most of the cake toppers I was looking at were letters...so now I'm realizing how retarded it would be to do both. The baker we have choosen said she doens't charge extra for detail as long as it's not fondant...so I'm going to show her my dream cake and see how much it will cost...here is my inspiration:

My colors are royal purple and silver...so I was thinking of just a plain white cake and having the detail be in silver or white covered in silver luster dust...

So now here are my ideas for cake topper...FI and I both like this:

Only Problem I forsee is that it wouldn't match the colors and maybe not even be on the same level as such a pretty and elegant cake.

My only other thought is to have my mom (who did all my flowers) use some of the extra's she has and made a topper to sort of match the topper in the picture of the cake? I don't know what to do lol

Re: Opinionated ladies come here please!

  • Ok, my thoughts.

If you are going to have a lot of detail like the picture above, I would just do the flowers as the topper. I personally and not a fan of toppers that are people, but if you like it then use it for sure. I just think if you are going to have all the detail on the cake then less is more for the topper.

  • 1. LOVE that cake...if I was doing a traditional cake, I may have stolen that haha.

    2. The cake topper matches the softness of the cake in the picture, in all honestly I do not know how that spefic topper would look on a cake with purple and silver accents (nice color scheme, mine is purple and champagne Smile). I think that the topper is more for a "softer" cake so if there was no purple I would totally go with it...otherwise, I personally would find something different.

    3. I love the idea of the monogram on the cake with a flower topper, I think that would be very classy and nice. I think this would create more grandure and beauty for your cake :)

    Hope this helps!!

  • Love that cake! It's so pretty! I agree with PP. The topper you have is pretty. But to go with the colors, I'd just use your flowers, I think it'll make the cake really elegant, and just top it off perfectly! But whatever you choose I'm sure will look fabulous!

  • Definitely LOVE the monogram... I've been looking for one that I really like..... I've saved that to my Favorite Cakes folder :) I vote flowers! It should help tie the cake together with the rest of your wedding decor/ flowers

  • I agree with everyone else. The willow tree topper is really pretty, though. Is it actually a cake topper? I know the one my sister got was actually too heavy to sit on the top of her cake and that one looks pretty heavy, too.

They must have learned brides were actually using that figurine as a cake topper, because this one is labeled as a cake topper and has a circular base on it with flowers that is not on the normal plain figurine :)
  • I don't have an opinion. But I want your caker topper. That is the sweetest thing I have ever seen in my life. NOW, if they made the female black, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

    Anyways - - back to you - -

Honestly, I am so in love with that cake topper I would find a way to make it work. LOL

BUT the flowers would still look really elegant. I love that monogram. :)

You can google Willowtree cake topper and it should come up. If you love it that much you could always buy one and just paint her a color that would match your specific skin tone (probably turn out to be a better "you" then if they actually made an intraracial version anyways). I don't think it would be hard since they are just wood and I don't remember them having any coating on them.  I mean I think it would work if you really loved it that much :)
  • I've seen that cake picture before and I absolutely love it! If you're trying to recreate that particular cake, I'd definitely go with the flowers and monogram. I too am not a fan of people cake toppers. Regardless, although the topper is sweet, I don't feel like it would fit in with your color scheme. Plus, the flowers would tie in your bouquets really nicely. You could also ask your baker, they're the professionals and probably have seen it all. They can give you a really good and professional recommendation I'm sure. Good luck with whatever you decide! :)

  • Thanks ladies for all your opinions! I am convinced that if I can do this cake design in my budget that I will do some form of flower cake topper probably out of purple hydrangeas (like in my bouquet picture below) to tie it all in. I already texted my mom just to make sure she had flowers left over.

I think I was just trying to hold onto the willowtree one because I thought it was so sweet and could easily be kept and put on a shelf in my house. I'm a sucker for keepsakes! lol
  • Love the cake! Love the flower idea! Not such a fan of the willow tree on the cake... doesnt seem to fit your theme. Use it somewhere else, or keep it for the house. :)

  • I like the flowers idea.  Since our "topper" is the monogram on the top tier (that was me:))  we are having a few fondant flowers on the top as well.  Nothing too over the top since I don't want it to look too crazy and cluttered looking!
