Help! Reception Departure Ideas!

Hi,
We are getting married on a vintage ferry that does not allow open flames. I love the look of the sparklers, but b/c of this restriction, those are out. Also out are rose petals and rice. I don't want bubbles because they can stain the dress. Any other ideas out there?

  • Bubbles don't stain the dress.  Both my DIL and DD had bubbles and their dresses didn't stain.  Our incredible dry cleaner, whose job it is to know about stains bought bubbles for her DD's wedding.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • Keep in mind you may have to pick up those flowers or bird seed.  This is why bubbles became so popular.

My church gave specific instructions about clean up and the consequences of leaving it out.  You may want to check with the ferry.. I would hate to see you get fined or have a bunch of nicely dressed friends stuck cleaning it up!
  • Would they allow something like dried herbs? Our venue allows anything as long as it's natural. We're doing dried orange lilies. What are your colors? Lavender is really pretty if you have purple in your colors, and they smell fantastic as your guests toss them.

  • I have heard of people offering their guests ribbon wands to wave as the couple leave.  It sounds like you are having a smaller wedding - you can have them available for your guests with a note attached explaining what to do.

You have a nice keepsake for your guests, and nothing to clean up!

We are actually giving everyone a bunch of dandelion clocks to blow as we leave. This would probably work well on a ferry... they'll just float away :)
  • My friend did bells and it was so pretty...I am thinking of doing sparkers.

  • I love the dandelion idea!  but we are doin eco-friendly confetti in multi-color.  it should have the effect or look of snow falling.  I made 100 tossing cones to put the confetti in.
