Last Name (Poll)

I plan to completely change my last name once I'm married. I have begun researching how to legally do this and it seems like a pretty extensive process. Not to mention having to order all new documents and credit cards in my new name. I was just wondering what others are planning to do?

I'm not gonna vote on the poll because I want to hyphenate, but FI wants me to change it. I'm not feeling that. And it's only because I can't write his last name in cursive and it look decent! We'll see.

I have a hyphenated name right now - I was 'adopted' by my stepdad when I was in 5th grade so I've always used both last names on my big documents like my diplomas and such. And in my signature I use the initial of my first last name. I'm excited to use just one last name!

I'm completely changing mine, and I'm ready to do it. I don't have the best relationship with my dad, so I don't mind losing his last name.

I'm a little torn but I'm going to change it completely. I grew up with my mother's maiden name. My grandfather was an only child so I feel like I'm the last one with that name...The name dies with me..in a way.

My mother's last nameis her maiden and married name joined together with no hyphen (the army joined her maiden and married name together). My uncle is the only other person in the family with the last name. But..I'm going to change it completely...even though I absolutely cannot stand it. I don't think it flows well.

Now that I think about it, my middle name followed by his last name sounds a mess! lol. But just my first name and his last name sounds good. I just want to hyphenate it because I like the way it sounds. And like NeCole, I have my mom's last name and I would be one of the last ppl with my grandparent's last name.

I will use my first, maiden, then his last. I'm glad to drop my "oh so dated" middle name. My dad has all girls so to make him feel like he has a namesake, if I have a son, FI and I will make my maiden name his first name. Dad loves the idea. His grandmother suggested that we also make my maiden name a girl's name, but I'm not sure it fits...maybe as a middle name, but I'm not really sure.

I voted completely change, but I had a friend (a BM) that hyphenated. It was easy for her cause she didn't have to change anything. Totally off subject but it was also good for her cause the relationship didn't work out.

I'm completely changing my last name and probably dropping my middle name and using my maiden name for that instead. I have a pretty unique last name right now and people always make stupid comments about it so I'll be glad to have my new married last name.

I'm totally changing mine, can't wait and my daughters will stop saying, mommy is a Davis and not a McQueen... my mom substituted her maided name for her middle, i was thinking about that, but I love my middle name so McQueen I will be :-)

I'm totally changing mine and hear that it is an annoying process. I have some kind of name changing kit that I got from a bridal show. Hopefully that will help.

I am keeping my last name. The kids will all have his but I want to keep mine. FI is OK with it. My folks on the other hand are not. But I figured since they are not the ones changing their name, the decision is mine and FI's alone.

I'm slowly changing mine completely. The social security card gets changed 1st before anything else-that was pretty easy. DH and I went on vacation recently with two different last names (which I didn't like) because I didn't chage my passport. They told me if I started the process before the trip , I might have a headache with customs.

I've been married before and the first time I changed my name completely. Not doing it this time because of the cost and I ended up forgetting to change some things anyway. This time I am hyphenating.

I just thought about it. I always use my first and middle name simultaneously...hence NeCole Monet...maybe I'll just change that to my first name...use my last name as my middle name and take his last one.

I plan on keeping my last name, but going by my married name in personal affairs. I'm sure it'll get confusing, but it just seems like too much of a hassle otherwise.

I'll be hyphenating but due to a cultural tradition I will also be adding his first name as my middle name. So I will have 1 first name, 2 middle, and 1 hyphenated last name

I just thank God no one sees my middle names but me LOL

I am keeping my middle name and taking his last! My mother kept her maiden name as her middle and wants me to keep my maiden name. But I love my middle name and last and really want to hyphenate. But FH is not having it. :-(

Completely, I just started to have a relationship with my father. But we definitely arent close enough for me to even consider keeping it. I used to ask my mom why the hell didnt she just give me her last name.

I hyphenated my name for the first year of our marriage just so people could get used to my new last name and while I was changing all my info ssc, license etc. and that didn't take long at all. After the 1st year I dropped the Hyphen completely and just kept my DH last name.
