Wedding Planner?

Hi All!
Thinking about highering a wedding planner to "help" me plan our Sept. 15th 2012 wedding.  We have done some wedding planning so far, but I might now be regreting the reception venue that we have already put a deposit down on.  Its wonderful and the staff is so nice - but thinking its really going to be to small for what we would like to do.

Anyways, feeling a little overwhelmed and debating if a wedding planner might help.  Any suggestions? We are on a tight budget and with all of the research I have done I have found other alternatives ... but honestly do not have the time to meet and chat with each one of them.... places and vendors are booking up fast!

I guess any advice would be very much appreciated!

Thank you! :)

What venue did you put your deposit down on? I'm sure that this board could be of great help in avoiding the added cost of a planner.

I would think that even a planner would want you to see a venue beforehand.

We don't necessarily have a "planner", but have some great options to help us along the way. The church has a wedding coordinator and she helps get all the stuff set-up and where we went it. If there is a problem we just call her. She will also be present at the wedding to make sure everything goes as planned. The reception venue also has a coordinator and she is handling the scheduling for the dinner, then you turn it over to the DJ to make the rest of the night happen. Look for somewhere that will do this for you. I am no good with flowers, so my mom hired her interior decorator to do all the flowers and make the room look awesome and give extra touches. There are plenty of ways to do this on your own. Good luck with whatever you choose!

We are using Bendora Wedding Gallery. They have been so helpful already. We just hired them as a Day-Of Coordinator and they are offering A LOT more than I expected. They were so wonderful at respnding to my inquiries, and that is a huge deal to me. I stray away from vendors who don't respond. We are working with Sarah... she is super nice! Give them a call, and I am sure they can guide you in the right direction :)

Thanks so much for the advice! :)  I might just being having one of those freak out moments. :)  We were all set with Big Room Events - but I'm just nervous the venue might be to small.  We are scheduled to go back in and measure everything out next week - so we shall see :)  Our wedding theme is vintage glam, thinking about doing heavy apps, carving station, mash pot bar, and an open bar instead of a traditional sit down reception (mostly because of the space and expecting 150 ppl to attend.)

@Vanessa... I'm thinking about the Big Room also... when you go and measure...would you mind posting the info? I'd love to see the venue set up for a wedding... I was beginning to think it was too small too! I do know the wall with the windows is 66 feet long and fits 7 round tables down it, if that helps!

For a wedding planner - I recommend A Wedding by Sylvia! She's amazing!

I am using a DOC as well. She has been super helpful already keeping us on track. We are using someone out of Cincy, but I interviewed Heather Hanselmann and really thought she was fabulous.

  • @April - The Big Room and my schedule haven't fit eachothers yet - I am still trying to find a time to get back in there to do some measuring and lay out ... I will make sure to post here so you can see what I come up with!
