Wedding Dress Question

I have just begun shopping for my wedding gown and I am in love with the mermaid style dresses, but a lot of women have been giving me negative feedback on those type of gowns. I think this type of gown best compliments my body type.  Have any of you purchased Mermaid gowns?  Folks are telling me they are the easiest to walk in, I wont be comfortable if I have to sit, stand, dance, sit, stand, dance etc???? My theory is why would they make them if they are going to discomfort the bride.  I can't wait to try them on see for myself.  What gown type have you all selected?

Thanks Ladies

I think the mermaid style works for certain body types. If it works for you and you feel wonderful in it then get it. I chose a more A-Line dress that was fitted but had alittle flare. Good Luck!

I used to be a mermaid dress hater but some of the modern styles are gorgeous. I think when most people imagine mermaids we think of the old 80's style dress w poofy hair to match. Watching Say yes to the dress has changed my mind. Just take the haters with you when you try them on and they'll change their mind. Especially if its the best compliment to your shape, it's a pretty sexy style and I love the way it shows off curves. They're not uncomfortable the way people think either because so much cost goes into the materials. And if you look amazing who cares about sitting or doing anything else LOL.

I have a ballgown myself but that's the style I've always wanted.

Make sure that you move around in it when you're trying the dress on, don't just stand on the pedestal. Sit, walk, dance a little, bend over to pick something up... think of all the positions you may assume on your wedding day and try to do that in the dress (including lifting ur arms in the air to test out the boob/dress slipping potential). I did a jig in every single dress I tried on. Silly? Maybe. But I know for sure I'll be super comfy in the dress I chose.

Forget what everyone else says. If you think you look fabulous in your dress, then that will be what everyone sees.

I wore a mermaid style gown and it was really confortable to wear all day.  I was also careful to select a gown with a light fabric because I didn't want a lot of dress, nor did I want it to be heavy.

I always thought I would choose a more traditional style, but I was very happy with my selection. I was able to sit, stand, dance, and move very comfrotably all night. I was also able to use the restroom alone because my dress was easy for me to maneuver.
I say you should buy the dress you love the most that you feel comfortable and beautiful in.  Third party opinions are not always your best friend.

I am wearing a A line with a little more poof (which resembles a ballgown) for my wedding dress and a simple lace A-line for my reception dress. I tried on two dresses and fell in love with both of them. One was more elegant and I wanted for my ceremony and the other just sexy and fun.

I think you should go with the one you like the best and please yourself.

I love the mermaid style dresses, but I opted for a fit and flare.

It's just about the same style as the mermaid, but it's not as tightly cut off at the knees, and allows for more movement.

I didn't know what to think of it when I was just searching, but once I actually put the style on... I fell in LOVE!

    HTH..
