PIP: Do these colors work/bridesmaid dresses

I found a wedding on style me pretty that is the inspiration for my wedding.  I loved it the moment I saw it.

I love the colors and flowers, but I can't find long formal bridesmaid dresses in that champagne color that I like and would look good on all the bridesmaids.  I have 6 girls ranging from size 4-22.  I did find this dress that would work for everyone, but we'd order it in a dark purple.

My mother is now saying that she doesn't think those flower colors would look good with purple dresses and that it would be weird for the bridesmaid dresses to be the only purple aspect of the wedding (purple is my favorite color).  She thinks I should go with richer tones that are more "fall," which I'm not totally against.  I'd consider red for the dresses, but the carpet at the chapel is bright red and they might clash.  FI hates yellow and my bridesmaids have begged me to not do dark brown.

Thoughts or suggestions?

Re: PIP: Do these colors work/bridesmaid dresses

  • I would try to tie in the purple somewhere else personally, just a pop of it as an accent a couple places and it would tie everything in. That could be as simple as a little bit of purple ribbon tied into a decoration, or something like that.

That being said, I don't think the purple will look bad with the flowers at all, especially if you're doing a dark purple!
  • I agree with Britt - if you tie is something purple elsewhere it would prob be best. I am only having my MOH in eggplant but her flowers will have some purple and the flower girl will have a purple sash. We're also going to use little bits of purple elsewhere like ribbons or little details.

I like the idea of mixing it up and being different so go for it!

  • i think the purple will go well with all those colors. i know some things tell you to stay away from using too many colors, but since they all go together, i think it will just add more to the whole look. i'd definitely try to tie the purple in somewhere else, with flowers or even just by adding ribbons around the vases in the centerpieces.
    Happily married since 9/1/2012!

  • I agree with PPs. Also, where have you tried to look for that champagne color? It's really gorgeous! Have you tried Allure bridesmaid dresses? They have several colors that are somewhat close to that.
  • I found this Allure bridesmaid dress I love, but I'm not sure if the pleats in the front would be flattering on a larger woman or if the one shoulder look will "date" my wedding.

  • That is the one I fell in love with! Honestly, pleats on gowns hide a lot. Most of my girls have pleats on their gowns because it hides a lot. Three of them are pregnant and chose a gown that will help them feel comfortable after they have given birth. Plus that dress has the belt at the waist which also helps to draw attention to the smallest part of the body. Have your girls try it on!
