DJ

How much control are you giving your DJ at the wedding?

Let's just say I had to pick my DJ from my venue's preferred list. I am getting married in AZ as most of you know and let me just be nice and say it this way, that most DJ's in AZ probably don't have the same taste in music as those in say ATL:-)

With that said, I am thinking of pretty much picking out all of music. I already sent him a list for the cocktail hour but last night as I was putting together my "eating dinner" music,  I was thinking maybe I am going too far..he is a professional wedding DJ maybe I should give him some freedom. But the bridezilla in me says...continue doing what you're doing:-)

Re: DJ

  • I'm giving my dj a lot of freedom. I giving the song list for the different events during the wedding but that's it. I've listened to his playlist/previews and it seemed like he understood what I was looking for.
  • Can you sit down with him and get a feel for his "range" of services? Maybe just have a meeting and give him some ideas of what you like and see if he jumps in with some other suggestions. Then you will know if he can be set free or if you have to give him specific direction.

<div>I did have a sit down with him last time I visited AZ. FI actually got there before I did so they had been talking beforehand. We got to talking about the cocktail hour and he looks at my FI and says, "you said the name of the artist was "neo soul""...I quickly jumped in and said...NOOOOO the GENRE of music we want is neo soul. So I knew going into this I would have to provide him with every soca and reggae song we wanted..that was expected. But if he doesn't know what neo soul is..that got me thinking that I needed to micro manage. He seems okay with the idea of being micro managed but it's just alot of work finding all these songs. But I guess I have time. And my next worry is that he will just play these songs one after the other and not actually "DJ" the music...hmmm:-/</div>
