Help! Nicotra's Ballroom or Old Bermuda Inn (both in SI)?

Hi! I would love all suggestions from those who have been to weddings at either of these two places (Nicotra's or Old Bermuda Inn). My fiance and I are trying to decide for a winter 2012 wedding! Your thoughts??

Re: Help! Nicotra's Ballroom or Old Bermuda Inn (both in SI)?

  • Hi, I'm getting married at Nicotras so I am partial. I love everything about it - food, service, atmosphere, staff. We went to their NYE party and it was exceptional. The owners made it a point to check in on us and everything. I have only been to Old Bermuda Inn for a brial show and the appetizers were tasty and it is very pretty inside. I think either place would be a very nice choice. :)

  • I'm getting married at the old Bermuda in in June so you can probably tell how I'm going to vote. The food is amazing, the staff is super helpful, and the hall is gorgeous!!! Plus the old Bermuda inn decorates for Christmas beautifully! We went for a tasting in the winter and it was breath taking there. All of the wood inside is handmade, and I love the idea of using the two large staircases for pictures! The whole hall has a very romantic feel to it!

Thank you both! Your responses are very helpful! I hope that you have wonderful weddings....I would love to hear how the both turn out! I have a tough decision to make here.... : ) I still have NO IDEA what to do.
  • PS: Do either of you have any ideas for places in SI or Brooklyn for an engagement party?
  • I've been to Nicotra's Ballroom and the food was very good. We actually called them for a price quote because their grounds are beautiful but they were kinda out of our budget. I'm not too sure about the Old Bermuda Inn. I heard mixed reviews about them.

I'm not sure of your budget for the engagement party but you can try The Hudson River Yacht Club or Giando on the Water. Both are located in Brooklyn. Me and FH are actually having ours at the yacht club and my mom is considering Giando's for my bridal shower. Good Luck!!

  • Hmmm for an engagement party - there is the Staaten (great food but the venue can use a little updating, it is very well taken car of though), Oriential Plaza does nice parties (I am having my rehersal dinner there), depending on how big you want to go there are a lot of nice restaurants too.

  • Hello! I am also partial bc I am having my wedding at Nicotras and they have been so wonderful so far! The grounds and rooms are beautiful and the people are great to work with. I have also spoken to people that have attended weddings there as well as read online reviews and I cannot find anything wrong with it! My suggestion would be to look up reviews for both places and visit them in person if you have not already.

Again, I am parial, but I believe you have narrowed it down to two very nice options. Perhaps it would help to see which venue has your desired date available.

    Good luck!

My brother had his rehearsal dinner at Oriental Plaza last year and it was very nice.
  • Thank you everyone! I will continue to read reviews on these two venues, but you are right about the great reviews on Nicotra's as I have not read many "bad" reviews either!

As far as other venues for the engagement party, I will definitely look into the ones mentioned...Oriental Plaza, Giando's, and the Yacht Club! Thanks for the help. It is very much needed and appreciated!
  • Just thought I'd weigh in on this as well. I'm another Nicotra's bride - twice now. DH and I were first married in 2008 and had our reception there. For their 10th anniversary, the Nicotras held a contest for an "I Do All Over Again," open to all of the couples that were previously married there. DH and I were blessed enough to win and get married there a second time. Both times, we, as well as our guests, have had nothing but great things to say about the venue, food, and service. I can't recommend them more highly. They're not the least expensive venue, but they give you a lot for a money. The peace of mind alone was worth what we paid. It's not update for the second wedding (it was only 3 days ago), but here's the full review I wrote after the first wedding: http://tinyurl.com/7bdky35
  • This is very helpful, GraciousLoser. I will also check out your review!! Nicotra's sounds more and more amazing! : )
  • I have been to both for weddings and they were both great.. Either way you can't go wrong.
Rehearsal Dinner you can go to the Staaten, Nucci's, the Lake Cafe and how bout Afternoons?

  • I just booked my wedding at Nicotra's and couldn't be more excited! I went to look there as well as the Old Bermuda Inn and both places were beautiful with fabulous staff, but I have to say the menu options, the grounds, and the room with the floor to ceiling windows really sealed the deal on Nicotra's for me. They were also more flexible in pricing than I originally thought and are really there to work with you. I'm pretty partial now! Good luck and congrats!
  • My family got food poisoning at their tasting at the Old Bermuda a few years ago, they decided against it due to that.
