Tiaras

I was just curious what your thoughts on tiaras are. I wanted to wear one (I'll be taking my veil off after the ceremony) but I'm kind of second thinking now and I don't really know why! Any thoughts/expereinces etc??

They are not my taste ( think they look a bit silly on someone who isn't a princess or beauty queen), but if you want to wear one, go for it!
  • I'm not going to wear one either, I don't think they look very mature. BUT if you love it, then go for it!
  • I didn't wear a tiara, but a sort of flat jeweled head band instead.  So if you like the idea of a tiara, but think they look too princess-y, maybe a head band would be a better idea.

I think they look a little dated most of the time. Like you were getting married in 2000 instead of 2010, if that makes any sense ... it's just that styles change, and it seems like most people are wearing a fascinator, or a birdcage veil, or a jeweled headband or some other kind of hair ornament, or just a veil and nothing else.

  • K Byte said it perfectly above.  Tiaras are simply out-dated. Also, in my opinion they look completely awful..cheesy/tacky...meant for princesses and beauty queens, not brides.  You should check into fascinators, jeweled head bands, etc.  Check out etsy.com...they have tons of great hair accessories!

  • i am not going for a tiara, it's not me at all. you can still look around and even try them one and see how you feel, if you really want one, can look for a tiny one or even a jeweled headbands. no matter what you choose, make sure you might still like it 10 or 20 years from now, cos pictures of you will be all over in the photo album
  • I think it's up to you. I was alway going to wear a tiara. I was going to take my veil off after the ceremony and wear it to the reception. I have had many women that have gotten married tell me they did that also and ended up regretting it when they got thier recep. pics back. It is the one day you get to wear your dress and veil, so do it up all night! :)

My veil is a three layer veil. (the blusher, than a fingertip length and a cathdral length with small delicite beads on it.) For the recep. I have the cathdral length one detachable so I can have just the 2 shorter ones for the recep.

If you have more than one, that might be an idea.

    Good luck!
  • I am wearing a tiara and it doesn't look dated at all... I actually think many girls wear them when they are getting married.  I don't care if no one liked them... I do so for my day I am for sure wearing one.  I think it really depends on the hairstyle too.  It really goes with mine....  GL!

  • Everyone is right.  They are outdated.  I love the jeweled headbands, feathers, or flowers instead.  They are much more modern and look beautiful without being tacky.

  • Tiaras have never been my thing.  And I agree with PP...they're outdated.  I've always loved the idea of a headband.  Mine is an intricately jeweled headband.  My BMs will also be wearing a single rhinestone headband so they have something a little extra in their hair as well.

  • Not my style at all.  Way too princess-y.

  • Everyone is different on what they want.  IMO, you may be just looking for something to pizzazz up your hair.  Every bridal store you go to has these tiaras, but who wants to look like previous brides?  Etsy does have a ton of cute ideas, and depending on your dress, you'll decide if floral or beading is right for you.  Good luck!

I was about to say I don't think anyone looks good in them, but Jenni's looks great! It helps I think that you wore it further back on your head- it compliments your hairstyle.

So I'll revise and say most brides I've seen wearing tiaras make poor choices (IMHO) and they look silly. Not my style at all.
  • I'm wearing one, although mine is more like a headband and won't stick up off my head like a crown or anything. (PIB under "The Look")

I don't think they're outdated either, FI and I went to 3 weddings in the past year and two of the three brides wore a tiara type headband like what I'm wearing and they looked beautiful. It's a personal choice, do what you think will look best on you and don't worry about trends or styles and just think of how you want to look on your wedding day.
  • Tiaras aren't my thing.  I liked little stick pins in my updo for when I took my veil off.  My hair was the most perfect part of the wedding look.  I still have regrets about other parts of my attire (not the best dress, veil too far forward...)

Tiaras are starting to become outdated.  Kinda reminds me of a prom queen.  why don't you try a jeweled headband or comb?  It gives you a sparkly head without making you look like you are playing dress up

  • It's totally up to you! I personally haven't met a bride in the past few years who has worn one or desired to wear one, but I am. It's what I've always wanted - I've had a few of my girls ask "why?" or "what are you thinking?" or just laugh - but that doesn't matter. The important thing is that you're marrying the love of your life. You only get married once, so do what you want to do.
I'm wearing one because it's something I want to do. It's not everyone else's wedding day, it's your wedding day. Have fun, enjoy it, and don't worry about what other people want. It's your wedding. It's the first day of your marriage. Don't let others dictate what you can or can't do on the first day of your marriage, what will happen down the road when they want to start dictating what you do in your marriage?
  • I loved my tiara, but I always knew I wanted to wear a giant Cinderella ball gown, and, well, what else would one wear on their head with a ball gown.

Do what you think looks best on you and with your dress and what you feel most beautiful in.  It's your wedding.  If you feel like a million bucks, people will think you look that way, too.
