Tier/Column Cakes (out dated?)

I will be having a small wedding, consequently small cake. My tastes are rather "classical" and "timeless" and I really like the look of columns (or a fountain underneath) on a cake. Is this COMPLETELY out of style? It would definitely add some height to a short/small cake. Do cake makers still consider this an option?

Yes, many cake bakers can still do this and offer it as an option. I personally think it is outdated but if it is what you and FI want go for it. I think that if the style of your wedding is very classic it would fit in great. However, if you are having a modern style wedding or something very eclectic I think it might seem out of place.

I haven't seen a fountain on a cake in a while but I have still seen the columns used. It's your cake get what you and FI want.

I think you can have columns and a fountain, and update it a little bit.
just because you like the look of fountains and columns dosent nesecarially mean you have to have frilly piped edges on your cake and that 1/2 inch jewel tone ribbon you used to see.

basiclly any style cake you and FI decide on can incorporate columns and a fountain.

Try updating your cake to make it a bit more modern. Instead of using a fountain (which is a bit outdated) put a small engagement photo of you and your FI underneath the cake. You may even be able to do a small arrangement of flowers underneath that go with the centerpieces.

ALso A C Moore sells clear columns that you can fill up with decorative glass or rose petals to go with your color scheme. Much more elegant and not as outdated as ordinary white pillars!

Anything can be given a modern twist. That look is not my style but I think this cake is beautiful!
