Guess who landed???

After 22 months (whew, that's a long time!) of unemployment, I have finally landed a job!   It's just the right mix of stuff I've done and new duites to make it a real challenge.

Everything came together really quickly, after a wackier than usual start to the 3rd round interview (Did you see the post about trying to get past the police barricade? There was a suspicious package across the street from the company's building, preventing access at the time of my interview.).

My first day is July 5, two days after the wedding. The Board of Directors is coming to town next week though, so my first job-related gigs will be attending the Board dinner and reception on Tuesday evening and a small breakfast on Wednesday morning of next week. Eeek!

The best parts -- really short commute (3 Metro stops from home); increase in title and salary (no small feat in this market); and 3 weeks vacation.

Let the Hallelujah Chorus begin! *\o/*

OMG LIsa, that is WONDERFUL news!!! I am so happy for you! What a great "wedding gift" LOL. You have endured a very long period of unemployment, and I'm sure this will provide you great peace of mind. Of course, my first thought would be "With this extra income, what can I add to my wedding?" LOL.

Is there something in the water in DC? My son is visiting from DC and found out YESTERDAY he also has a job! The pay is less than he anticipated with his recently minted Master's Degree, but he'll be making what I made when I was 35, so our family's salary history of "moving on up" past the last generation's salary history continues. I'll probably sit with him sometime before he leaves Tuesday to go over his budget, etc. He probably has to move out of his highly priced studio apartment right in Foggy Bottom, but I"m sure he can find something reasonable or else find a roommate, LOL.

Wow, people are dropping off the unemployment rolls in DC Laughing

Thanks, ladies, thank you all.  It's been so long ... I could have been pregnant and delivered twice and had some time for breastfeeding in-between.  Ha!

@Donna: thanks for the chorus.  Love it!

@Sue: congrats to your son.  A lot of folks fresh from master's programs are unable to find gigs.  His salary will eventually normalize.  Everyone is getting paid less than what would have been the case a couple of years ago.

Lots going on ... fun times, fun times!

That gives me hope.  Poor NotFroofy has been unemployed, and looking for a job as a Web designer, for over 2 years now.

I have a friend in the same boat.  She did some volunteer web design for a community organization in Arlington, which helped keep her skills fresh and led to some other --paid -- work.  She finally landed a contract gig with the Federal Reserve.

Oh!  If NF hasn't checked it out, she may want to try finding recruiters who place folks at AARP -- they bring almost all of their web design people in as contractors, then may or may not hire to perm, depending upon the project.  I had another friend who did that. I'll try to get a name for you/her.

Don't let her give up hope!  I will send a PM later today (gotta run to visit dad) or tomorrow with links to some key resources here in the area. Give her a big (((HUG))) for me. I know what she's going through. I really do.

Congratulations!  That's fantastic.  I was also unemployed for 22 months, but I had to accept a job paying quite a bit less and go back to 2 weeks vacation.  It's a job though, and it is going to take a while to get back on my feet.  Now, HE needs to get a job as he has been out for 1 1/2 years.
