Plus-Sized

First Dance

Hi everyone!

My wedding is just around the corner August 11th and my fiance and I just scheduled a few dance lessons so we don't look like a cake on display in a diner sway and turn, sway and turn. Up until this point, I didn't feel like I was concerned about my size or anything but all of a sudden I'm really nervous about all eyes being on me. I'm nervous for the dance... for dips or turns that I'm scared I can't do. I'm thinking about my arms flapping around and how the pictures will look...

It feels a little silly but is anyone else worried about this? And how are you coping? Also, has anyone taken dance lessons? Should I be concerned about being a plussize woman?

Thanks in advance... I've read a lot on this board and you all give fantastic advice and are nothing but supportive!

Re: First Dance

  • FI and I took a couple dance classes through the park district and I highly recommend it. It made us feel so much more comfortable, and we were even able to bring in our song and have her help us figure out what type of dance to use with it.

I stopped caring about "how I'm going to look" because we're only inviting close family to Vegas that will see our first dance. My motto is if they really love me, nobody will care, so neither should I. I intend to enjoy every moment of my wedding. All self doubt can stay behind for that one day.

  • Hi Nicole!! so funny you posted about your arms flapping.... I stood in the mirror last night for 10 or 15 minutes, putting my arms up as high as FI's shoulders because I was so afraid of that.  Truth is, my arms actually look thinner when in the upward position.  LOL

Dance lessons can do nothing but build your confidence.. I say go for it!!!
and I'm sure you won't be thinking about everyone in the room when you are doing your first dance :)
