A friend of mine had a Brazilian in February right before her wedding- i'm so terrified to try it but she had some leftover percocet from a previous injury so she took one right before and said it was fine!!

    Anyone have a brazilian before?
  • edited December 2011
OK, TMI confession (and only since you asked) -- I just did the Brazilian thing last night for my wedding Saturday.

I've done bikini waxes before on (rare) occaisions, but this was my first Brzilian.

And let me say -- NEVER again. Well, maybe if I had left over percocet. A LOT of leftover percocet. it hurt like a mofo. ;-P

Ouch OK so I don't want to do this because I don't want to be red and in pain, BUT does it look that much better/different than shaved?

I usually get Brazilian waxes because I find it's easier to just get it all off. I also tend to have a relatively high pain tolerance though. I do not find them comfortable by any means but it's not that bad that I wouldn't do it again. They say if you take 2-3 ibuprofen an hour before you go that it really helps.

i go back 4-5 weeks because mine grows in slow.

I LOVE getting brazilians. Ok, maybe not love, but the end result if fabulous. First time I went, I went with a friend (yes, we held eachothers hands haha) but after that I was fine. Yes, it hurts, but if it isn't too long and you take some ibuprofen it's not terrible. it also gets better each time you go. I will only do it for special reasons (FI asked I just shave for the wedding and get waxed for the HM since we are going a few weeks later haha). Your hair grows back so much thinner and slower it's amazing. Depending on how your hair grows, it could last from 3-6 weeks I think, maybe more.

I'm terrified of getting a brazillian. I'll stick with the razor. Sorry for the TMI haha

I go every 4 to 5 weeks to get a Brazilian.  It hurts at first, but now it really does not bother me one bit.

Anyone ever been to J Sisters in Manhattan? If I decide to suck it up and get one before the wedding, that's where I'd go. I have heard wonderful things about them- but they're expensive ($75). Would be interested if anyone here has ever tried them out.

Ditto KLE plus the end result is really worth the mild discomfort.

it really doesnt hurt anymore than eyebrow waxing, take 2 advil before you go, and make sure you go to someone who is good

I regularly get brazilians for about 4 years now. I go normally every 4 weeks.  It is quick, 10 minutes or under.  My waxer has become a friend of mine since I've been going so we just chat the whole time.  I would never go back to shaving.  It's not as bad as people would think - perhaps the first or second visit but after that it is totally fine.

I have never gotten a full brazilian. My place calls it an inbetweenie. I did stop and switched back to shaving and got horrible ingrown (sorry if TMI) I haven't done it in awhile maybe this summer.

Hot wax goes nowhere near my lady bits. I used to wax my legs as a teenager (home waxing), until a friend took pity on me and taught me how to shave. (Only child, no big sisters to help out.) I actually enjoy shaving in the shower - with my super long, hip-length hair, I let my conditioner set and attend to my legs. Automatic 20 minute shower to relax!

Ok thanks to all these waxing posts today I think I have worked up the courage (along with a friend) to make an appointment for a Brazilian at Bliss for a few days before the wedding!!! Yikes!!!
  • edited December 2011
OK, I just want to say that the people who say the Brazilian hurts the same as eyebrow waxing are lying! ;-)

At least for me. It hurt WAY more than eyebrow waxing. Seriously, a LOT more. I did not know the ibuprofen trick though.

I can't imagine ever trying a Brazilian.  My eyebrows are the only things I'll ever wax...I'll stick to shaving everything else!

I'm going to have to post a photo of my hair down soon. Its still "short" for me - after my mother somehow persuaded me to cut it last August... no scissors are going anywhere near my braid ANYTIME soon.
