  If you don't want to stay in Newark, Kingsland Park is in Nutley and it would be about a 10 minute drive on route 21.

  I second Branch Brook, or take a drive over to Maplewood Memorial Park, there's a duck pond, cute bridge over a brook, lots of trees etc.

  another vote for Branchbrook or try Verona Park in  Verona which is very popular for wedding photos nice bridge and small lake

  Whatever you choose, make sure you check to see if you need a permit. Most essex county parks do. They have info online.
