Undergarments: from the bridal salon or elsewhere?

Hi ladies,
I am getting ready to start making some appointments to look at dresses, but I wanted to ask you all about your undergarments. Do you purchase the one recommended by the bridal salon, or do you buy your own ahead of time and take it with you? (I am talking about the strapless bra and spanx etc.).

Thanks!

  • I brought my own spanx and strapless bra to try on (ones I already owned, I didn't go out and buy something new).   Then once I chose my dress I bought specific undergarments to wear with it.   I did NOT buy these from the bridal salon -- they make a lot of their money by over-charging on accessories and "extras" (veils, tiaras, gloves, sashes, shoes, slips, etc).    Unless you absolutely can't find something that will work with your dress someplace else, then don't bother with the stuff from the salon.

  • Definitely don't buy the undergarments from the bridal salon. Take their recommendations into consideration but look online or at department stores for better deals. Bridal stores jack their prices wayyyy up. For trying on, having all the "essential" undergarments isn't necessary. Just wear a nude strapless bra and nude undies.

  • I am going to have to disagree with all of the PP's. When I went to try on dresses, I did just use what the bridal salon had. However, I haven't been able to find any corsets that will fit my big bra size except for at David's Bridal. Victoria's Secret doesn't even carry a corset that would work! I agree that bridal stores jack their prices up, but that is truly the only place I've found that sells anything that will fit!
