non-cheesy dj/mc?

just wondering if anyone has a recomendation for a non-cheesy DJ?  Also pricing woudl help. Thanks

Re: non-cheesy dj/mc?

  • Jack Bermeo from LJ Productions. They are amazing!!
  • We are working with DJ Alias from Scratch Weddings and are so excited!  For cocktail and reception the price is about $1850.  We went with them because we didn't want the typical Jersey Short DJ... no fist pumping allowed.  DJ Alias would spin at a dive bar I used to go to on the LES all the time.

  • all dj's are slightly cheesy in a way
  • I have actually told DJs that if they talk to much or annoy me, I will stop payment on their fee.  I was a bit nicer about how I phrased it but make your desires clearly known.

I would have to disagree.  I've been to a few events where the DJs were not cheesy at all.

This is why most vendors want payment before the wedding.  The contract for my DJ states payment is due 10 days before the event or if we pay on the day of the wedding it must be with a bank check.  The officiant also wants his money a week before and if we choose the day of he wants cash.  I know the photographer and flowers we pay in advance too, not sure how far in advance though.  And of course the venue will be fully paid for.

Back in the day when my parents got married, they paid AFTER the event. I guess vendors got burned too much.  I haven't come across any vendors that accept payment after the service is provided.
  • I would also suggest Scratch Weddings.

We saw him at a bridal show.  I liked him and he was all friendly saying my wedding date was open.  I called him the next day and when he called me back he said there were 3 other people before me that wanted him for my date, but one cancelled, one rescheduled and he was still waiting to hear on the last person before me.  (My date is off season, mind you).   I was a little put off by this because just days before he said he was open.   I also found it strange that if he were so popular, why would he be spending time advertising at a bridal show?  So part of me thought he might be feeding me stories to make him look more popular than he is.  I mean, why else would you mention 2 other people who wanted my date but backed out for various reasons.   Who knows.  We quickly moved on.  :D

Also, I wasn't aware he had any people.
  • We used Owen from Aria Melody DJ for our Aug 19 wedding. Not cheesy at all and certainly not in your face. We were thrilled with the job he did for is for our cocktail hour and reception. He played exactly the type of music we wanted to hear and kept people on the dance floor. People at our reception actually booed when he announced dinner was being served because no one wanted to stop dancing!

  • My wedding is 9 months away so I can't give you a personal review, but we're using DJ Colleen Crumbcake, who prides herself in no cheesiness.  She has a list of songs she definitely doesn't play and says she is never chatty on the mic, it's more about the music.
  • You have to go talk to the guys at Mystical Entertainment. They actually listen to your needs and have problem stepping away from the microphone. My fiancee and I used to love going to clubs and they took us back and really made it amazing. Good luck...planning is so exciting!!
