Say Yes To The Dress: Atlanta

Last Saturday, just for fun, my BMs and I filled out applications for SYTTD Atlanta. Yesterday I received an email saying they would be calling me today or tomorrow for a 10-15 minute interview. Has anyone had this interview before? I'm just wondering what to expect.

I have no experience but it seems they only put people on there who have a lot of drama. Like if the bride is a bridezilla or if someone in the family wants the bride in a completely different dress. Sometimes, i think they add stuff to play it up. It seems like it would be a very stressful experience. Eta: I think it would be fun to get selected. I just don't know how I would handle the stress.
  • One of the regs on NEY was one of the finalists for four weddings, but pulled out at the last minute. I'll see if she has anything to say since she's worked with tlc.

  • I think it sounds like fun, I just love the SYTTD shows!  What Misshart said is correct, though, they are looking for brides, but also looking for 'Good TV'.  Doesn't necessarily have to be drama, but some sort of story that makes you different and interesting.  Think about the types of brides they feature: pregnant, second time brides, huge budgets, no budgets, military, significant weight loss, unusual dresses, very young brides, snarky moms, jealous sisters, difficult BMs...  You get the picture.  Be yourself and have fun!  Let us know how it goes, and good luck!

  • I was at Kleinfeld's when they were filming SYTTD, but I was very happy to be off in my quiet corner.

  • I think the Atlanta show tends to have less dramatic stories than the ones in NY.  I guess I would just play up whatever makes you different from the average bride- maybe its your theme (the girl last week had a "cow poo" theme, no joke) or how you met your FI etc.

  • I work in reality TV, not on that show. The best thing you can do is have lots of energy, have a clear POV, and present the people who will be accompanying you as "characters." Is your mom hard to please? Is Dad the one who will have to approve?

Also, what is unique about your story? Everyone on that show has an "angle." "Tried on over 100 dresses" "Recently lost 50 lbs" "Never dresses up" "Hates looking like a princess" etc.

Keep in mind that if you are selected, they may end up not using your visit. They film a lot more visits than they actually need in case they get a few duds.

I was surprised to find out that in NY, they film every day that they are open! I always figured it was only a few months at a time, since their 'new' seasons only run for a few months!

<div>They don't film every day, it's only for 8-10 weeks at a time, 4 days a week. I got my dress there and was there 4 times over a 5 month span and they were only filming once. </div>

I think the reason they do this is because every episode has a theme, brides with crazy mothers, plus size brides, brides who are missing a family member. All those brides aren't going to come in on the same day, so they take stories that have something in common and put them in one episode, even if thy were filmed a month apart.
  • We did randy to the rescue, and it was a BLAST!! But there was no interviews or anything before hand, we just showed up and did the whole yes to the dress routine. Good luck!!
  • Honestly from what I've seen of the Atlanta show, all you need to do is have a massive bad attitude, be willing to start a fight with the attendants, and have a crapton of money to throw around on one dress. Bonus points if your sister picks a fight with one of the store managers. That show is klassy.

I cannot watch the Atlanta show.  Every time one of them says "We're gonna jack her up" I'm asking the TV if they understand jacking someone up is not a good thing in most parts of this country.

I was coming in here to say this!!!!

After two episodes of blondie saying that, I had to turn it off.  I loooooathe this show.
  • Thanks everyone for your replies!

I had my interview a few hours ago - was more laid back than what I expected.  Said he has others to interview but will contact me in 48 hours. He did say I was his favorite applicant and interview so far (he could say that to everyone) but we will see!  Still cool to even get an interview, IMO.

    Thanks again!

  • Update! I'll be filming for SYTTD:ATL next Friday! Pretty nervous, but I know they expect us to be dramatic. They said there is no guarantee it will air, but if it does it will air this Fall.
