Need Opinions/Reassurance

Hey everyone...

So I bought my dress this weekend. I'm the type of person that hates making big decisions... but I quickly fell in love with the fourth dress that I tried on and bought it. I do love it, and I know that I fell in love with it when I tried it on, but now that it's purchased I'm starting to doubt myself. Has anyone else experienced that?

I'm just scared of looking childish because I do look young for my age (I'm about to be 25), but I dont want my insecurities to dictate what kind of dress I wear. I've always envisioned myself in a ballgown.

I'm planning on wearing that dress with the hairstyle in the last link with a fingertip veil in the back. Do you think that the hairstyle/veil will make it look more elegant? Is anyone else wearing tulle?

I know that it shouldn't matter what other people think, but I just need some reassurance right now!

  • I think you'll look sophisticated, so long as you like it just be confident in your decision! :)

  • I have a big tulle ball gown skirt and I love it.

I think you look beautiful. However, it is very common to doubt yourself after such a large purchase. I did but realized I loved my dress soon after.

  • I definitely think it's common to begin to doubt your choice.  I did but for me it was because of the price.  I have never paid that much before for something I'd wear and it scared me even though it was in the budget.

You look beautiful in the dress and you will be gorgeous on your wedding day.

  • Thanks guys!  And you're right, I probably am more uneasy about it because of the fact that I've never spent that much money on an article of clothing before (and I bought it myself, my parents aren't in the position to help much financially with the wedding).  I am going to rock that tulle. :)

  • you look so cute in it. and not lil girl cute but "BRIDE" cute. You made an excellent choice. After a big purchase, I always have second thoughts but as long as you love it that whats counts...
  • I love the dress and you will look amazing in it! I second guessed my dress up until my wedding day.  You definitely won't look too young, your hair style is very sophisticated.

  • You look amazing in that dress.

I think your comments later addressed your concern: it's a lot of money to spend on one garment, for one day. However, if you fell in love with it on the day you tried it on, and looked great (which you did), you made the right choice.

Looking forward to more details as you proceed!
  • I'm the same age, only 5 feet tall and get mistaken for a teenager a lot.  I also bought a VERY similar dress (I'll show you if you want).  I had the same apprehension as you and I still feel that way.  As a previous poster mentioned, "cute" is a word that is generally associated with little girls.  Brides do not want to be cute, they want to be beautiful.  I totally and completely see your point and I empathise comletely.

Now having said that, I don't think you look cute.  I do think you look gorgeous and I do think that it's a stunning gown that fits you remarkably well.  My only advice on the veil is to make sure you get one that is well-made and not poofy at the top.  They don't have to be expensive, I found a girl on Etsy who is making me a 2 tier waist length veil to my exact specifications for $35.  I e-mailed her for over a week trying to get clear on my fears of looking like it was my first communion rather than my wedding and she totally understood what I was talking about.  Here's a link if you want to look around.  http://www.etsy.com/people/megsveils?ref=ls_profile
I didn't see anything that *quite* fit, which is why I contacted her and she did a really nice job.

Anyway, short story long, I think you look great and wouldn't regret the purchase.
