Photographer Recommendations for Gainesville?

I am getting married in Gainesville in October, more specifically the Thomas Center.  I keep going back and forth between hiring a professional and asking friends to do it.  I know the pros and cons of each, I just don't know if I can fit a photographer into my budget.  I've seen some that have lower prices but the quality seems to suffer.  Any suggestions?  Should I just go with a friend?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My photographer was great! She's based out Jacksonville but does not charge to go to Gainesville. Her website is www.jmosleyphoto.com. Her lowest package is $2000 but she is worth even more. I was so impressed by her work!

We are using Katie Leonard Photography.  I really liked her work and found her rates to be VERY reasonable.  Link in bio.

I've also been talking with Katie Leonard Photography. She's really friendly and we're meeting up for coffee next week. If you send her an e-mail, she probably won't reply until Monday. She's otu of town for a funeral

My thing about a friend is I'm not really into to many posed shots.  And I love the pictures my friend takes, and all I really want are pictures to look back and remember it.  I don't know it's so hard and I really have only under a thousand for pictures, really a few hundred.  :/

I agree that photography was #1 on our budget. We did not do a limo, I made invites and other paper products, and I'm really glad we went with a high quality photographer. Mine may be out of your budget (www.amantezphotography.com) but we own all of our digital negatives so friends and family can get copies of the cds and dont have to pay outrageous prices. I agree with everyone, having a friend take pictures who is not a professional photographer is very risky. I would see what you can do with your budget- maybe only having the photographer from the ceremony through reception, rather that having them come hours earlier for the getting ready pictures, may help your budget.

Have you searched on Craigslist (both Jacksonville and Gainesville)?  I have found a handful of photographers that have a really nice portfolio and charge less than $1000 (usually for about 6 hours) and give you full rights to the pics.

Check out Kris Nichols.  I think she is still a student, but she has a portfolio on her website.  She quoted me $700 I think for 8 hours of shooting and editing the photos and all that.  I'm actually using my cousin, but she is a professional photographer.  I have no idea what her rates are (she just moved here so she is still getting established in the local wedding industry, but she has been doing it for years), but her website is mizdigital.com.  I can also recommend AVI photography.  They did my engagement photos and were wonderful to work with.
