Getting a friend registered as an officiant in Maryland?

Does anyone know what needs to be done to get a friend registered as an officiant for your wedding? I am getting married in Harford County and they said that the officiant needs to be "registered as an officiant of a church," but does one do that with a local church or can it be through an online website?  Thanks for your help!  Jen

I'm getting married in Anne Arundel County, and I called the county clerk's office to be sure, so maybe you should do the same.  We had our friend get ordained by the Universal Life Church online (it took literally two seconds) and the county clerk's office told us that he didn't need to do anything further to be recognized as an officiant.

We had my grandfather register with the same Universal Life web-site...he is a lawyer and was all worried about if it was legal. He checked it all out and it totally is legal...
