Winter Wedding Inspiration!

Hi All: I am engaged less than 2 weeks and my fiance and I hope to get married as soon as possible. Until we find out otherwise, that means January 2012! I am woefully unprepared for wedding planning. Can I hear you you guys about memorable winter weddings you may have attended? Are their any particular venues in Northern/Central NJ you think will be ideal for a winter wedding? We live in NYC, but won't be married here. We will have the ceremony in a church and hope that we will be welcome at family parishes in either West Orange, Newark, Bernardsville or Hazlet. That leaves us with a pretty wide range of potential venues. Thank goodness! Your feeback is really welcome, thanks!

    Hello and welcome!  You will definitely be able to get good feedback on this board.  Can you tell us a little more about your wedding?  That will help us give you more specific advice.  Are you looking for a Saturday night, or are you open to a Friday night, Saturday day or Sunday?  Do you have an approximate number of guests, and a budget?  Knowing the per-guest price you are looking for is helpful.

    You should definitely look into the church ASAP.  Some churches require that you reserve a date at least a year in advance, but I imagine that some are more flexible.  If you have family members who are parishioners at certain churches that may be a good place to start.

    Good luck and happy planning!

    Congrats on your engagement and welcome! We had a similar scenario, we knew we were going to get married at a church in either Jersey City(where we live now), or in Somerville(where I grew up/my parents still live). So we wanted to pick a venue not too far from one of those areas. You cover a fairly wide area with the towns you mentioned, so as Joanna said, the more info you give us, the more we can help. Definitely about how many people, and how much you're looking to spend per head. Also the style of venue and if there are any particular characteristics that you're looking for. I would recommend my venue (The Palace at Somerset Park) because I think it's amazing, but you may be looking for something completely different. Good luck!

    My parents went to a winter wedding at the Newark Club, in Newark, and they said it was done really well- I think you'll find inspiration through magazines, though, and definitely on this board and the fall/winter boards.

    I had my wedding this past January :)  definitely was freaking out a bit about weather, but we lucked out and it was beautiful. since we weren't sure about any outdoor photos we looked for a venue with an especially gorgeous interior. Meadow Wood Manor in East Hanover was where we had our wedding. we opted to have the ceremony there too to minimize travelling. other venues we liked were Primavera, The Manor, Skylands, and Crystal Plaza. feel free to look at my photos (link in siggy) for any inspiration!

    Thanks everyone! My fiance and I sat down and estimated a maximum of 150 guests for the wedding. We would be happy with dates in early to mid January, but really only consider Sunday for the long holiday weekend. Otherwise Saturday night is best. The budget is still not set, but a range from $100-$150/pp is our current target. We attended a wedding in Denver recently at Mile High Station and my fiance likes the decor there. http://www.milehighstation.com/  Brocade and crystal chandeliers aren't necessarily our style. We looked at websites for The Stone House at Stirling and the Montclair Museum, both of which look very appealing to us.

    I agree, we need to wrap up the church ASAP. But until then you never know what advice you throw at me that might stick!

    @xstarx05x Fabulous winter wedding pics!
