Children

I know there is a sticky that addresses this, but I've read through it and it didn't help. My kids will be 14 & 12 at the time of the wedding. FI's kids will be 23, 18, & 16. I want the kids to be a part of the wedding, but I'm only having a MOH for an attendant so I won't be having any BM's or jr BM's. I'm not a big fan of the family ceremonies (candles, sand, etc.) plus I think the kids will be a little old for that. What can older kids do in a very basic ceremony to still feel involved? I'm DIY'ing some stuff...would helping me make things and just getting their input on the day help?

    ASK THEM

And I don't necessarily think they HAVE to be part of the wedding.   The wedding is the joining of you and him.  They are dragged along whether they like it or not.  Being an honored guest is fine. ~Donna

I wouldn't give them "jobs" such as programs, etc. just to make them feel included.  Yes, ask them.  They will likely say just being there is being involved enough.

    1) ask them how they want to be involved, if at all. Do they understand the "supporting cast" at a wedding, and can they express an opinion about whether they want to be "that"

    2) You can always have them as attendants (if they wish) in spite of how you envision having only a MOH. They can dress up in pretty/nice things, walk down the aisle in front of you, and then sit down. Don't include them in the vows or a family ceremony, but if they do want to be a part of it, don't exclude them either.

As everyone else has said ... ASK THEM...

It is the only way you will know what they want to do. My oldest(18) is maid of honor, my son(13) is walking me down the ailse and is a groomsman and the baby(8) is one of the flower girls. My son asked me if he could walk me down the aisle and all three of them found the hourglass ceremony we are using in the wedding.

It is your wedding and you are blending 2 families ... treat each person involved with respect and have fun.
