Just Engaged and Proposals

Please tell me there's a solution

Hello all! Long time viewer, first post. So me and the FI have chosen the wedding date and have already ordered the STD's. I already have deposits down with all the vendors for this date as well. I then realize that, my wedding date should be the start of my period!! Why didn't I think of that before choosing the date?! Now I can't change the date without losing money and inconveniencing people. Is there anything that I can do to stall the "monthly"? I have the Mirena so I can't trick it with the birth control pill. Can my doctor prescribe some pill?

Re: Please tell me there's a solution

  • But the shot on top of Mirena is bad, no?

I'm going to be in Russian Roulette land; since getting my Morena, I have unpredictable rounds of spotting that go as long as six months apart, and random two week periods.  Def talk to the OB/GYN
  • Definitely contact your doctor. He/she should be able to help you or find a solution.
  • Am I the only one who didn't plan her wedding around her period?  It didn't even occur to me!

Nope, I didn't either. Which is why I will be on mine for the wedding. Oh-well. And for those who do try to plan around it - stress levels often change your due date anyway.

  • Thanks for the advice. I will talk to my OB and come back and post what he tells me.
  • I had this same revelation last night actually... I'll be okay for the wedding night but my period will start on the 2nd or 3rd day of our honeymoon which obviously isn't really ideal.  I'm on the pill so it should be easy enough over the next few months to shorten my cycle by a couple days each month so that my period is done before the wedding and all in the clear for the honeymoon!  No idea about Mirena though, as PPs said likely ob/gyn or family doctor is the best course of action here.  If you go soon I'm sure you can do some shifting over the next 4 months.

I had my period on my wedding, and it wasn't the end of the world.  We pushed the honeymoon back by a few days, and everything was fine. Honestly, we were so tired and exhausted the night of the wedding that both of us just wanted to go to sleep.  I would never have thought of changing my wedding date because of it!

  • Not at all.  I'm now off to do some math!  :)

  • Medically speaking, if you are on the pill, you can skip the last week of pills and just go straight into the next pack.  Unless you are trying to have children, or think you might be pregnant, there is no medical reason to have a period.  You can safely start a new pack early.  You could do it all year round and never have a period, if you want, though you may want to go off every few months to check for irregularities.  That's the point of those Seasonique pills- it's the same as the monthly pills, except they don't give you the placebos at the end of every month.
  • Talk to your GYN and see if he can put you on continuous BC for the 1-2 months prior.

I recommend starting this a little early simply because, for some women, the first time you skip the sugar pills and go straight into your next pack can throw your body into whack. The first time I did it (on continuous BC for medical reasons), I still had all the nasty PMS symptoms, but no period. By my second or third time doing it, I was no longer having those symptoms prior to when my cycle was supposed to start.

    Anyways, food for thought.
