Rates for the babysitter

Hey girls, I need help!

Has anyone used a babystiter or plan to use a babysitter at your wedding? What is reasonable for them to charge?

A girl I talked to wants $75/hr to watch half a dozen kids, plus I would be giving her a meal.  She's not bringing any toys/games for the kids and she's not even CPR certified... Is this reasonable or is she trying to take advantage of it being a wedding?

Thanks for the help!!

as someone who has baby sat, been a daycare aid, been a preschool teacher and an elementary school teacher (all in that order)

    she is ripping you off

the current going rate for a preschool assistant is about $10 here in colorado (depending on corperation)

and they HAVE to be CPR/First Aid certified

and they watch a whole heck of a lot more kids than 6 at a time

i say-find someone else and give them dinner, yes and give them a flat rate for the night (depending on how long your party is)

this girl is trying to rip you off...baaaaaah, i wish i were paid $75 an hour to BABYSIT

    Thanks Sakana!

Maybe it was my fault for asking the girl what she would charge versus offering her a flat rate :P  What kind of flat rate would you suggest for 6 hours w/ ~6 toddlers?

I actually run a child care center...

If she is watching 6 toddlers.. there are a lot of questions I have.

How old is she and what experience does she have? How close are the bathrooms? (Picture taking 6 kids to the potty!)

Under no circumstances what so ever would I ever let someone that was not CPR first aid certified do this.

I pay my toddler teachers about $11.75 per hour... one has 5 1year olds and the other has 7 Two year olds, this is the ratio for colorado state.

My best suggestion is to hire someone that has wored with kids, expecially toddlers and ask them to bring an aid with them. Give the main person $100 with the understanding that she needs to pay her aid out of that.

This should be more than ample pay, EXPECIALLY if you are having an evening wedding... the kids will be doing a lot of sleeping after 7:30 or 8pm.

Also provide them with food. Ask parents of the toddlers to bring their blankets and a toy for each. Stop by the dollar store and pick up some crayons and scrap paper or coloring books and see if you can get a hold of a tv set.

Let me know if you need help with this, I have teachers that do this kind of thing all the time!

I also agree she is ripping you off..

I would suggest getting someone cpr cert and maybe looking into two teen girls if you can and pay them $6.00 an hour per sitter ($1.00 an hour per child and if you are feeding them) if your are supplying all the games and stuff for the kids to do!

    Best of luck.

ps. you can go to local places that teach cpr classes and ask for referrences and they will most likely give them to you so you can call them and you know they are cpr cert.
