Father's day, thinking about what to do for father daughter dance

Being father's day i was thinking about what song to play during the father daughter dance.  I'm a traditionalist prety much when it comes to my wedding.  I want all of the traditions including the father daughter dance.

The issue is that my dad is not a setimental type of guy.  Us girls are not his baby girls we are not his princesses, we are just his daughters.  Don't get me wrong he loves us very much but he just doesn't express it.  he's not one to give hugs I really don't know if I have ever heard him say "I love you".  We always knew that he loved us he has his ways of showing it.

so being that he's not this sentimantal type of guy I just don't know what song to play for the father daughter dance because the ones that you'd think of for a father daughter dance just doesn't work for my dad.  "Butter Fly Kisses", "Playing Cinderella" there not him.

I did recently see someone do a father daughter dance to "Should have been a cowboy", since that was her dad's favorite song.  I have thought maybe doing a Johnny Horton song like "Ballad of New Orleans."  I just wanted to see if any of you girls know of any songs that would work for a father daughter dance but that are not all sappy and touchy feely.

Thanks girls and I hope you all had a great weekend and got to spend time with your dads.

I let me dad choose.  He surprised me an chose "My Little Girl" by Steve Kirwan.  You can listen to it here <link>

If your dad has no ideas or you want to suggest some songs to him, you could always try

    Wonderful World - Louie Armstrong
Isn't She Lovely - Stevie Wonder
Unforgettable - Nat King, Natalie Cole

Letting your dad choose is a great idea.  but if I told my dad that he could choose he would say "I Don't care"  However I do love the idea of Wonderful World.  It's not sappy but it is a slow song and if I do have the Mother/Song dance at the same time that woudl work as well!

Thanks for the song ideas I actually think that I'm going to do Wonderful World!  I know my dad likes that song.

My dad is also a non-sentimental kind of guy.  In fact, we might not even have the father daughter dance because of that.  :-(
July 16, Our Wedding Day, is also International Juggling Day!

I just got married on Saturday, and we did the groom/mother and father/bride dance at once, and I selected "Desperado" by The Eagles for it, mainly because I know my dad likes the song, and it was a relatively gender neutral and a sweet song without being cheesy.

    agape, how was the wedding?!

Yea, I'm super sentimental and I sent my dad a list of 5 or so songs and he chose "I Loved her First", which is really emotional, but I love it and I know I will cry! Sorry I wasn't any help, but I do think "What a Wonderful World" would work well! That is a great song!

I love the song "I loved Her First".  I'm actually Super Sentimental and I don't know where I got it from because no one else in my family is!  When I picked out my wedding dress my FMIL cried but my mom didn't.  But I could see both my parents crying when we get married.

I have decided I'm going to go with "What a Wonderful World"  I love that song and if we do decide to do a joint Father/Daughter Mother/Son dance, which we probably will that will work on both ends.

We didn't do the father/daughter & mother/son dances.  My dad doesn't dance and DH just didn't want to do it.  But I love "Wonderful World" and actually I just love anything Louie!  That will be a good song for you to dance to.
