Videography paid up front?

I found a videographer in my budget that I really like and he just sent me a contract and apparently requires the entire fee be paid up front? He's definitely legit, he has a ton of reviews so I'm not worried about it being a scam but it seems odd to pay for a service up front that I won't be receiving for another 5 months. My photog only needed 50 down. Anyone else experience this? Is it normal?

I paid a lot of my vendors 50% up front, and the remaining half a month before the wedding. If you like him and he is reputable, I would go ahead and do it, although that does seem a little out of the norm.

Almost all of my vendors were paid anywhere from a 10-50% deposit to book them and then the remaining balance was due anywhere between 30 days before up until 2 days before. Only one vendor's balance had to be paid on the wedding day and that was the MUA. As long as you have a contract and it's a repuitable vendor I wouldn't worry too much about it. You can always try to negotiate with him regarding deposit amounts.

I would be wary paying the entire sum this far out because you just never know what could happen. Can you ask him if you can pay part of the sum now and part later? Contracts can be negotiated

Thanks all. I emailed him and told him for the rest of my vendors I made a deposit and will pay the rest right before the wedding, and asked if there's anything in the contract protecting me to make sure I'd get my money back if he had to cancel his services. I'll see what he says.
