Where to dress shop?

Hi girls,
I am new to the Knot! My fiancee and I got engaged on Thanksgiving, and are getting married July 2010 in Maine!

Anyway, I am going dress shopping this coming weekend with some of my bridesmaids. I'm also sort of new to NH, and looking for recommendations as to what Bridal store to go to?

Would love your advice!

Congratulations and welcome to the knot! Are you going to be shopping in southern NH or elsewhere? I only know the shops that are here in southern. I bought my dress, bridesmaids dresses, and we actually just got the guys fitted for tuxes tonight at Marry and Tux in Nashua. They are fantastic and the prices are pretty reasonable.

I also know a lot of girls go to Modern Bride in Bedford, as well as Madeline's Daughter on the coast. I think it's Portsmouth, but I'm not 100% sure. I've heard really good things about those places too. And of course there is David's Bridal.

Have you gotten your dress yet or are you just going for your bridesmaids? If you haven't gotten your dress yet, and decide to try out Marry and Tux, I've got a few coupons for $25 off your wedding dress if you'd like it. Let me know if you're interested!

    Good luck!

Edit: I wanted to mention that my consultant was Polly and she was absolutely wonderful! She's been with me every step of the way. When I went in for bridesmaids dresses she was there, and last night we went in for tuxes and she was helping us again. I like that they kind of assign one consultant to you for the duration of the process. I would def recommend making an appointment if you're trying on dresses since they have such a huge selection and you want the time dedicated to you.

Congrats and welcome!  The previous post mentioned all the big names in the southern region, and I believe there are one or two in Concord, NH as well.

The prices at Marry and Tux are great; Modern Bride usually includes some of the cost of alterations, and Madeleine's Daughter puts on some great trunk shows with the big names!  All of the shops are a lot of fun, so have a great time!

Thanks girls! I am planning to go shopping for my dress, and maybe the bridesmaids too, but mainly me :) this weekend...and yes, in Southern NH. I went last weekend in Maine where I'm from, and it was a diaster as the store did not have a good inventory at all. I just want to be sure I get the best selection with HELPFUL consultants!

I got my dress at Modern Bride and just had my 1st fitting today. They have a good selection with different labels.  Also like YayB mentioned a lot of times some alterations are included, for example my dress they are doing the bustle for free.

I had to buy my dress here in Canada for logistical reasons, but I went with my MOH last year to buy her dress. She purchased it from Madeleine's Daughter in Portsmouth. We had a fabulous experience and I would highly highly recommend them. Her consultant was Brandy and this was the first consultant that really listened to what she wanted, I had been to three other dress shops with her before where she couldn't find anything close to what she found at MD. My Mom actually went with us and went back to buy her MOB dress there because of how great they were to us. She has had an excellent experience with them so far.

I worked with Brandy at MD too! She is awesome.  Just a heads up - MD is doing renovations and will charge you to store your gown there now. I fought them on it because gown storage was a major concern of mine when I made the purchase.  They were accommodating, but I'm not sure what their policy is now.  Other than that, I had a great experience!

Congrats and Welcome to the board!!!

I bought my dress at Madeline's Daughter, Kerry was my consultant and I loved her! I even bought my shoes and headpiece there, and got a veil for free with my dress because I bought it during a designer trunk show.

I am getting the BM dresses from Marry & Tux in Nashua and they have been awesome to work with, and although I have not been downstairs where the gowns are, I know they have a huge selection!

    Hi and welcome!
I shopped at both Modern Bride and Marry and Tux.  I ultimately bought my dress from Modern Bride because they had the dress I loved, but I thought I had a better customer service experience at Marry and Tux.  I would recommend calling and making an appt. there and you get a consultant who's dedicated to finding you a dress.  If they had had something I loved, I would have bought my dress there.
    Good luck!

I agree with marry & tux also. I went there and Kelly was my consultant. She was very helpful and let me try on dresses until I had four top dresses to try on again and show my mom. She didn't rush me or anything, unlike david's bridal who gives you an hour and if you don't find it then, you have to reschedule. I plan on looking at Victoria Reeds in Rochester, NH because my seamstress deals with them a lot but I haven't gone yet. Good luck!

Sorry, not to post steal, but Meggelz, I'm going to Marry & Tux next Saturday.  Would you be willing to send a coupon my way?  If not, totally understandable!

I bought my gown at Andrea's Bridal in Rochester, NH.  Terri is the manager there and was the one who has helped me every step of the way.  We are also getting tuxes through Andrea's.  We got bridesmaids dresses at Marry&Tux in Nashua. Anne was my consultant.   I personally wouldn't reccomend Victoria Reeds.  I started shopping with them in the beginning.  They were nice, but never followed through with call backs or anything that they said they would do.  I would call with questions about certain dresses and never receive phone calls back. Then when I called I would get a big run around and promises to call back.   Not returning phone calls is on my list of what disqualifies a vendor.  Maybe you will have a different experience.

The ones in Concord are Cassie's Bridal and A Day to Remember Bridal Boutique. They are similar to Modern Bride and Marry and Tux. They are bot on Maint St and only a block or 2 away from each other.
I got my dress, shoes and veil at Madeleine's Daughter and worked with McKenzie (LOVED her).

I haven't been to a day to remember in concord but I've been to a day to remember. They didn't have much of a selection but were very nice and you didn't have to have an appointment.

There is also 125 Bridal in Plaistow. When I went the selection wasn't big but had some good options. They've got a new bridal shop open now. They were very nice but I wasn't wowed with their customer service.

Modern Bride def. had the biggest selection to choose from, for the shops I've been to. Again it was great that I didn't have to make an appointment.

I have to put in another recommendation for Marry & Tux. I had a WONDERFUL experience there. PLUS - they let Amylou and I put on our dresses together and do a photoshoot. As if they hadn't already won my heart . . . <3

I think I am debating between Modern Bride in Bedford, Marry & Tux in Nashua, and Madeliene's Daughter in Portsmouth.

    Can I get a vote?!

    :)

I'd either go to Marry & Tux or Madeliene's Daugther just because they have a higher level of service. But I don't think you'd go wrong with any of them.

Since Marry and Tux is the only place I went to, I'm a little biased. I definitely think they are amazing there, and you can get deals on your bridesmaids dresses and the guys tuxes as well. I've heard wonderful things about the other two places though, so really I think you're good wherever you go.

Marry & Tux gets my vote from the two.
