Questionable colors

Today my fiance and I went to get ideas on tuxes, he really liked a light grey suit for him and then the groomsmen in dark grey. We are having fall colors; rustic oranges, deep reds, deep yellows, golds and a little bit of brown. At first I wasn't a fan since I feel grey and brown don't necessarily go together (there is a little bit of brown in the flowers but it is mainly at the reception where we have the brown). He would also like to incorporate blue in his tux, I feel like we are just pulling colors out of thin air. Am I just being over paranoid about all the colors matching?

Re: Questionable colors

  • Fall wedding particularly contrast with creams, taupe, & golds.  Grey tuxedo's would look great with any blue, but I don't think it would go well with your rustic colors.

  • I think, considering how many colors you already have, a few more isn't really going to matter lol.

  • I think if your fiancé wanted different colors, he should have spoke up before you planned everything! Lol. But I think if you add the grey and maybe a navy blue it would still look nice with all the colors you already have!
  • I just think that sure is a LOT of colors going on...
  • I consider gray a neutral color so it will match nicely with yellows, oranges, and gold.

By the time you get the reception, no one is going to be matching your husband's tux to the centerpieces.  Everyone will just want to eat and drink :-)

</div><div>Were you planning to have him in a black tux instead? Gray is pretty neutral, it can go with anything (in my opinion). I feel like you don't really have "colors", you have a "palette" for your wedding - warm, fall colors. You could still add a splash of light blue to brighten things up. If that's what you want. You could also subtley have a little blue (like in his tie) if that will suffice. :)

I agree that I don't totally love gray and brown together specifically.  But your WP doesn't have to match the decor.

The blue could also be put in tastefully I suppose, but it does seem like a bit much - where was he with his blue desire when you decided the wedding would be fall colors?  I think if the guys are in gray/blue and the girls are in orange/red it won't really look like they go together at all.  I don't dislike a lighter, maybe cornflower blue with your colors but I think it needs to be brought in on both sides / the guys should have something orange also to make it go.  Could they do blue/orange striped ties?  or light blue shirts with orange/red ties?
  • What color are your bridesmaid dresses, what colors are the flowers, are they mainly solid colors? Can you both put all the swatches together and see what you could rework?

One of my friends had no official colors for her wedding, and it looked fine but I've also been to weddings where the colors looked pretty bad together. If having all those colors really bugs you though, narrow it down. Navy looks great with red, orange, yellow or brown. And grey looks great with red, orange, and yellow.
