Venue in The Quarter

Hi! We are looking to get married on a budget, but we are interested in marrying in the Quarter at a neat courtyard.  Anyone have any ideas to share?  Also, wedding will be alcohol-free and I"m worried about the Food/Bev Minimum charge.  Anyone know ways around that?

I'm sure you will hear this from others not just me, but........Having an alcohol-free wedding in the French Quarter in New Orleans (near Bourbon St) is...not really done here, and might be difficult for you.

It would be like....having a wedding in Napa Valley, "but no wine," (or....something).

At the very least, I would tell your guests that there will not be alcohol served, b/c.... honestly people do expect it, it's just part of the culture here, and it's Not out of any sort of malice.  Also, I will guarantee that people will drink in the Quarter before your wedding (unless it's Very small like just your immediate family).
Not trying to be a downer at all, I'm just giving you a heads-up that it's part of the culture - especially when you're blocks from the aptly-named Bourbon St.

For courtyards: St. Louis Hotel, Broussard's restaurant, Restaurant August (I think they have a courtyard? Can't remember?), in front of St Louis Cathedral (though more of a "square" than a "courtyard"), and for more budget locations check this link under "Locations:" http://www.figstreet.com/guesthouse/weddings.html .

You would need to ask them (if applicable) about the food/drink minimums though. You might have better luck having it on a weekday in that case...?

I'm sure there are locations I've forgotten, but just some suggestions to start....good luck.

We love alcohol, but if we wouldn't have it, there would literally be a revolt...

Maison Dupuy has a nice coutryard, but I don't know about their alcohol policy. My reception was at the Wax Museum, which was great, but not outdoors.

Restaurant August and Broussards are both CRAZY expensive (August is probably the most expensive restaurant in the city).  But in addition to what everyone else mentioned:

Musician's Square on Bourbon Street and Pat O'Brien's Restaurant Courtyard on Bourbon, all have a great courtyards.  They are a bit touristy, but they are centrally located and fun.

There is a beautiful outdoor "rooftop courtyard" at the Hotel Monteleone, and courtyards at the Maison Dupuy and Ramada on Bourbon (all three of these courtyards are also poolside).

For something off the beaten path that I would guess is likely to be within a small budget, you could look into the courtyard behind the bar Pravda on Decatur Street (it's small, 50ish guest capacity, but could be very charming with decorations).

Other than that, I am not really a FQ girl.  If you want any uptown venues though, let me know!

Ooh! Another thing you could do is a reception on the steamboat Natchez.  It departs from the FQ.  It would be outdoor and gorgeous with the skyline in the background.

Ditto on the Natchez, it's not a courtyard but it is very reasonable and you aren't locked into a food/drink minimum (except for a 25-person minimum if you want to rent the reception room).  And if wanted to do alcohol free you could probably get away with it because they will let you do a cash bar and then everyone could go out for drinks in the Quarter afterwards.  From their website it looks like they do have a French Quarter courtyard but I am not sure about the details.

Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
