Do I need a wedding planner?

I am having a dilemma. My fiancé doesn't want us to have a wedding planner, but out weddings going to be 400+ guests. Do I need one? Not to mention it's a Greek Orthodox wedding so much detail needed. I just need to know if they are worth it and what's the going rate for these planners?

Re: Do I need a wedding planner?

  • I will hire someone if you are having more than 400 guest.  How does he feel about having someone the day of the wedding only.
  • Wow you're having a big wedding!  I don't really know if you need a planner but we hired a day-of coordinator because after talking to multiple people on here, we realized that the lady who runs our venue (Branford House) doesn't really help with the events and we wanted one person to be with us all day and oversee the whole wedding.  My FI and I are doing all of the planning, but it's been nice to have someone to talk to about my ideas and give us suggestions.  We're using Jen Strunk www.jenstrunk.com and the package we picked is $500.
  • That sounds like a big wedding.  i would hire one, at least a day of.  I've been a bridesmaid at 6 weddings and I have seen the difference it makes having one and not having one.   I'm working with ESTOccasions.  I've always wanted to go to a Greek wedding.  If they all show up, even if only half show up that is still a big wedding.

I would at least hire a Day of Coordinator, as mentioned above. We are using Lauren Kras. She also inluces a montly check-in and update with us to ensure things are going smoothly. With that many people at your wedding, it would probably be helpful to have a planner there to assist with details. Lauren's website is: http://lakrasevents.yolasite.com/ or find her on facebook.

I have found $500 - $1000 for a day of coordinator is about average. Lauren was on the low end of that spectrum, plus it includes her coming to our rehersal dinner!
  • Usually, I would say no and to just hire a day-of coordinator (if your venue doesn't come with one).  But with 400 guests, it might be useful to have a planner if you can fit it in your budget
