Wedding Dress Alterations Help

So, I bought my dress!!!  BUT - the cleavage is too much.  I'm planning to lose 15-20lbs, so my bust will shrink some, but I still think I will need to get the dress "built up."

Has anyone else had to do this?  Any recommendations for alterations in Atlanta?

Re: Wedding Dress Alterations Help

  • I meant to post this on the Atlanta board, but if anyone here has recommendations for how to build up the dress, please share!

I don't really want something that looks like a camesole - I'm looking to literally add fabric to the neckline if possible.  Anyone seen or heard of this being done?
  • I had a simple day dress that had a neckline that was a wrap V like yours.  A few options is to add material behind the dress (close to your chest) that creates a sort of 'modesty panel".  It could be sparkly fabric to go with the under-bust belt.
if that doesn't cut it, then perhaps ask them to sew the V closed a little more?  I did that with my day dress about an inch, and you really couldn't tell at all. It just looked like it wrapped higher up on my chest =)
  • I just had a similar dress altered for a friends wedding. I had them raise the sleeves then she removed some of the material under my arm so it wasn't so tight around the shoulder/underarm area. If you have them do that be sure to ask how it will affect other seams on your dress. The rest of my dress wrapped and had ruching around the middle that moved up a little when we did that as did the seem along the hip so it was sitting kind of funny around my lower-tummy/hip area.

I know that's alot but the point is you may be able to have it adjusted without adding a modesty panel. As another busty gal I know that sometimes we just want to cover them a little more without wearing a tank top under everything. HTH
