Awww kitty! Pics please! I don't really have any advice on the transition for your poodle, sorry. But if your poodle is super crazy with the kitty, you might want to have a space that the kitty can run to where your poodle can't. Also, don't know if you've had a cat before, but they like small spaces where they can "hide" and just feel secure. My Binx has a "house" from Walmart, and I also leave his carrier out and open with my sweatshirt in it.

The good thing is that they're both older, so you're not dealing with the puppy or young kitten deal. We just did the opposite, we brought home a 7 week old puppy and have my 6 year old cat. Binx has it right, the cat will really want a space that it can hide, perhaps keep them seperated during the day (they sell things you can put on the underside of a door to prevent carpet scratching) and I would also recommend one of the litter boxes with a cover, because the dog will eat the cat poo, and also keep the kitty's food up where the dog can't get it, dogs love cat food, and it's really bad for dogs' stomachs. Also, try to keep the litter box somewhere the dog can be kept out of (baby gates are awesome), because if the cat gets stressed about it, they will poop and pee outside of their box.

I'm sorry but I'm totally nitpicking and "marine" drives me crazy.  Always capitalize the branch and their title.  Marine Corps, Marine, Navy, Sailor, Army, Soldier, Air Force, Airman.  Sorry again, it's just a respect thing.

Ditto both the PP's, especially about the litter box!!
