Help! Too selfconscious to find a dress...

My wedding isn't until May, 2013 so I've got a little time, but I'm having the hardest time ever losing weight I swear just thinking about it makes me gain...I'm about a size 12 in wedding dresses right now. I have gone to 5 different salons now on 6 different occasions to try to find a dress and every time I just get sad and depressed because I can't find anything I look good in at all :. I'm about ready to head to the courthouse in sweatpants because I can't stand the thought of looking like a circus show. Do I just need to suck it up and diet like mad? Accept that I'm just not gonna look like I want? Am I the only bride who can't get excited because she's too selfconcious?

First, a size 12 in a wedding gown is nothing to be ashamed of - those sizes can run absolutely crazy compared to normal clothes!  Still, lots of brides (myself included) get down sometimes.

If you're feeling this down to me, it sounds like nothing a little healthy food and light exercise won't fix.  You do NOT need to diet like mad, but it won't hurt to track your calories and see where you currently stand.  Also, try some healthier, homemade foods.  All of those chemicals in pre-packaged foods can really do some damage, not just to your health, but to your brain and the way you see yourself.
Start with day one, have healthy meals and snacks planned, track your calories, and try to get in some cardio and weights.  I bet when you wake up the next morning, you're already going to be feeling so much better.
The other thing to do is to set attainable goals.  What size dress would you like to wear?  Do you have a certain weight loss goal in mind?  If you have numbers in mind, and a set goal to reach, it will be easier to acknowledge and celebrate any small changes that get you closer to your goal.

  • i think most women in America are a size 10-14, so girl you really shouldn't worry! You're going to look beautiful in the dress that is made for you- which is why it takes time and you might have to try several before you're comfortable! Don't try to change for a wedding gown though, this is your day, so pick something that is perfect for your body - and then if you do end up losing weight because there's less pressure, you can always get it resized! But definitely don't wait til the last minute.

    Good luck!
