To Our Nurse friends

I believe there are quite a few of you on this board, so I wanted to wish you a very Happy Nurse's Day, and thank you for all the times one of you held my hand after I'd been struck by a car, helped me into the wheelchair after my c-section, and made sure that I was doing OK when I was in the ER when I had pneumonia.  I did not appreciate, but thank you anyway, when you gave me the bedpan after I'd been struck by a car, pressed on my belly after my c-section, and made me use that dang bird thing when I had pneumonia.

Love all y'all anyway!
Thanks for your compassion.  I could NEVER do what you do.  I admire you

  • Diito the sentiment of Handfast's post.  I too could not do what you but am ever so thankful that there are people like you who chose this path in life.
  • ***kicks dirt**** awww shucks, you guys are sweet-- thanks.  I am incredibly proud to be a nurse, and proud of every nurse, in our schools, workplaces, hospitals, clinics, offices, insurance companies, nursing homes, hospices, homes, military, missions, parishes, and every other spot that a nurse delivers care to those who need it.  Given the chance to do it all again, I wouldn't change a thing.  ~Donna
  • Wonderful idea Handfast4me !

My daughter and I just gave blood this week, every donor had a sweet nurse at their side, talking us (really me, LOL) through it.

I was especially grateful when I had my daughter at the age of 39, trying to push that 8 lb 3 oz bundle of joy out! I held the nurse's hand SO tight I kept apologizing.

My Mom is a giving person, and a great patient and through her example she taught me to always bring foods to the nurse's station. Used to be cookies, last time it was a fresh fruit platter, LOL.

I think my daughter has the wonderful compassionate nature to be a nurse, but the idea of sticking someone with a needle (in spite of the fact she now gives blood and doesn't cry at the doctor's office with shots and blood tests) is something she can't get past. I'm always trying to tell her there are other medical professions she could be sooooo good at.
Thanks Donna and all the other nurses out there. You deserve a day of recognition.
  • It's Nurse's day this week?  My hospital sure didn't say anything about it!  I guess that's what they are doing next week with "Employee Appreciation Week"

I've been a nurse for 20+ years and in the operating room for 23+.  Love my job (most days) even on the days I don't get lunch until 2pm.

  • Yep, Hays, nurse's week is May 5- 12 always, as May 12 is Flo's birthday.  Our hospital does the same thing, and celebrates Hospital week instead.  But the nursing dept does stuff for nurse's day on their own.  Congrats on a great career! ~Donna
  • I'm sort of glad there's not a Public Health Advisor day.  :-)
