couples shower?

I received an invitation to a friend's shower addressed only to me, no surprise there.  I opened the invitation and saw that the shower was actually a "couples shower" for my friend and her FI.  I was surprised because I have only been invited to one other couples shower about 6 years ago, and my BF at the time and I were both invited.  I guess I thought that "couples shower" meant that both my DH and I would be invited.  I don't know if it's just a typical female-only shower where her FI will also be there, or if other men/SOs will be invited.  Are both men and women typically invited to a "couples shower"?

Re: couples shower?

  • Yes, to the best of my knowledge.

  • As far as I know.
  • I would think couples all the way. Maybe can you call the host and ask for something more clear?

  • I have always thought that a couples shower were for both parties of a relationship.  I would call and ask.

  • We had a couples shower last month and we invited couples.   Why have a couples party if you only plan on inviting women?   I would definitely call and ask the host.
  • I have actually been to quite a few showers where it's female only shower but the groom-to-be comes just a bit later to open the gifts with the bride-to-be.
