Centerpeice Help Needed

Hey ladies! I am trying to decide what to put in the bottom of my vases for the centerpeices. They will be round, fishbowl-like vases, with a navy ribbon around the top, with pink roses and either peonies or gerber daisies (depending on price in June).... I am thinking vase gems, sand, birdseed, rock.... what do you all think?

Re: Centerpeice Help Needed

  • I like the look of colored gravel. It's smaller than the gems. You can actually get it at the store in the fish/pet department for not too much money. I used it before for centerpieces.

I like Shannon's idea! I think something natural would look great since your reception is outside

  • There are also colored water balls (start small like a pebble, then expand in water to the size of a marble) in a rainbow of colors, find them at the craft store.

I have no idea..... it is a tented reception in my parents yard. It is going to be simple. We don't need a lot of decorations because their yard is just gorgeous.... I would say it is going to be more of a classic, simple theme.White table clothes, simple rose centerpieces, white 3 tiered cake, white chairs, the guest book table and food tables will be decorated with roses in simple vases......

Dollar Tree.  That is where I copied that picture from.  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-surprised.gif" border="0" alt="Surprised" title="Surprised" />  I'm sure you can get them at craft stores as well, but I don't know if you will find a better deal!

I love river rocks.  I'm using them too.

ETA: The dollar tree sells the same size bags as Michael's and Joann's but for $1 instead of $2.50 each.

  • Since my colors are black and white, we went with lavender flowers, so at the bottom of the vases we are putting black and white crystals. They will look really nice.

Also to save money on the flowers, we are setting up vases on the head table to put our bouquets in during the reception. Not only does it keep them fresh but adds to the look of the head table.

Home Depot and Lowes carry it in their garden department. It will be much cheaper than buying it in little quart bags. They probably won't be shiny like the craft ones, but they will be in water and it shouldn't be noticable.

    Side note:
We had some guests (I work at a hotel) ask us what the our beautiful green. purple and tan rocks were called. I told them they are called river rocks. They asked where we get them. I responded with, "The river...." hahahahahaha
We go and "pick" rocks and bring them home in our area. :)

  • Do you even need something in the bottom of your vase?

I do like it when people do the willow branches in the bottom of the vases though.

Yeah good point. I talked with my mom about it last night and we decided that if the vases look ok with nothing in the bottom of them, then we will put the rock around the vases on the tables.
