Soo....for starters Friday (5/11/12) was off on a good note. I got my nails done with my MIL, SILs, and niece. Then went home to finish cleaning up a bit since the rehearsal dinner was at my house. My mom made me cry on the way to the rehearsal because she was in a bad mood, but eventually chilled out and apologized. Until....FIL pissed mom off again by acting like a two year old the entire time*****. So I spent the majority of rehearsal dinner keeping the feud from being a fight. The party spuddered and died pretty early because my dad started feeling sick. The Monday before he had surgery to remove a large kidney stone from his euretor and stupidly hadn't eaten or drank anything on Friday. Luckily my Aunt is an ER nurse and drugged him up a bit and he started feeling better after everyone left, lol.
I woke up early on Saurday and ran some last minute errands before picking up my cousin and meeting with the hairstylist. This sh*t took WAY longer than I ever imagined and were on our way back to the hotel at 2:45 pm with our ceremony at 4 pm. Nothing was set up at the hotel, not my centerpieces, or table cameras, table numbers, or seating arraingments. I was literally running to my room (on the 8th floor!) to get ready at 3:50 pm. I hardly remember getting dressed because we were in such a hurry. Only...
To find out that my brother hadn't even SHOWN UP yet. He still had to get to the hotel AND get dressed! This was at 4 pm. I have no idea what time the ceremony started, but it went off without a hitch. It went a lot faster than I thought it would, and I really hope the photog got a picture of hubby's face when I came around the corner! He couldn't stop saying "You're so beautiful"
After the ceremony and receiving line I ran up to my room to touch up makeup and bustle my dress for photos. When I came down all the pictures of FI and his family had already been taken and his sisters went inside, uninterested in getting any pictures with the two of us, or just me. I don't even have a picture with my flower girl. We got a few pictures of me and my family but everyone seemed to be in a big fat ass hurry for what I don't know, and I didn't get nearly all the pictures I thought I would. And then we went right into the reception...
Dinner was supposed to be served at 5:30 pm, we were announced around 5:25 pm and salads were served shortly after, it took 45 minutes for dinner to be served after salads. Then FIL entire table still didn't have their food after everyone else was already finished. Apparently the kitchen "ran out of food" and "had to cook more" I gave them final numbers and LESS than my finall showed up! How do you run out of food?
One lesson I learned was you get what you pay for. I went for a cheap DJ who I had heard great things about and learned he was CRAP. He started playing the wrong song for our first dance but corrected himself after fumbling for a minute. And played the wrong song for my Father/Daughter dance, I had to leave the dance floor to tell him it was the wrong song. He played crappy versions of songs that sounded terrible and made everyone cover their ears. And played some songs no one had ever heard of. BUT he did play quite a few good songs and the dance floor was quite packed. HOWEVER, even with a crowd of people he stopped playing music at like 10 pm and the party was apparently over at that point even though we had the room until 12. Our agreement said he would play as long as there was a crowd, but normally he doesn't play past 10 pm. If he did go over I wold just pay him the difference in his hourly rate. Apparently that option was off the table at that point.
Overall we had a blast and at the end of the day we were married and got to celebrate with our family. I learned that all the planning, all the stress, and all th emoney wasn't worth it at all. Everyone would have had just as much fun as if I had hired a good DJ, and catered in my backyard. Lord know it would have saved me and my parents a fortune.
****As for FIL his attitude never changed and he apparently was doing spitwads at my cousins. They actually got up and mvoed to a table across the room because of him. I didn't know about this until well after the wedding but had I known I would have thrown an all out FIT and chewed out my FIL. I still might actually.
