Kindle question

I don't want to take over the confessions thread.  I have read somewhere about a preview setting.  How does that work?  (I just got my kindle in the mail this morning so I haven't messed with it much yet.)

You can preview books in the Amazon store.  There's a button/thingy to "click" on that says "Preview Book".

  • ha. I feel the same way about the legality thing ;) I just didn't know if I should share that on an open forum.  I lend out my paperback books all the time!

I have the full Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood) series too!

A quick Google (obsession) says that the purchased books have DRM settings that woudln't allow us to share them.

There's a site where you can download free legal ebooks.  Mostly classics.  I'll try to find it.

    OoOoOooOOoooooo..... that makes sense Night!

I, personally, would have no ethical problem doing this, but I also download pirated music.

  • Maybe that'll work.  The Amazon forum says this: You can have up to 6 Kindles registered to the same account, and books may be shared amongst them. The catch is that they all must be on the same account, and all must use the same credit card for purchases.

  • Yeah. I did too. For some reason, though, I feel like Amazon could track this a lot more easily?

I'm not sure about the unregistering and reregistering. That would scare me. I'd rather just convert them all to PDFs and read 'em that way!

I would be worried about forgetting to log out of someone elses account when I bought a book.

  • Does it annoy you to have some books on your kindle and some in a paper copy?  I'm not sure if I should go that route or not.

Kinda.  I decided before I got my Kindle to reread one of the series I have in paperback, but then I wanted to read books on my kindle too, AND, we're big into audiobooks right now, so I literally have 4 books on the go right now (a second, nonfiction paperback).

I could have gotten the series I'm rereading on the Kindle, but we already own the paperbacks, so that just felt silly.

To me, if it's a book we'll both read, the paperback is perfect.  If it's something Derek won't/doesn't want to read, then Kindle, all the way.

  • raynes, you were thinking of Project Gutenberg:

Project Gutenberg has a lot of classics. Kindle also accepts .txt formated booked. You just have to hook it up to your computer to download them, and drag them into the folder on your kindle. Let me know if you need more help. The first time I did it, the books didn't come up, because I had to put them in a differnt folder.

Edit: And opal was the one who originally told me about this!
