Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

Ceremony music

Hi everyone!  My wedding is next June and I am beginning to research DJs for the reception.  What are you doing in terms of ceremony music?  Do most people hire separate ceremony musicians, or can I use the DJ?  Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated!  Thanks!

Re: Ceremony music

  • You can definitely use the DJ for both. We had a string quartet for the ceremony and a DJ for the reception.

  • I havent asked this individual yet, but I'm hoping that our downstairs neighbor who plays the flamenco guitar will be willing to play at our wedding.  I know he's done weddings in the past and our roommate seems to think he'll be into it.  Wedding isn't until July 2013, so I have no intention of asking until 2013.  My parents wanted me to hire a quartet, but I think this would be different and fun.

  • I'm having a celloist for ceremony, and DJ for reception. The celloist will play while guest are seated, aisle song, and recession...
  • Michelle - as a musician who has played at MANY weddings, I really do not recommend waiting until 2013 to ask this guy to play at a July wedding. If you are going to wait until 2013, then make it January at the latest. If he is a good wedding musician, he is likely in demand. I know many musicians (including myself) who are already booked for weddings in 2013. You might miss out if you wait too long. I've already booked the band for my July 2013 wedding because they are SUPER popular and have a regular Saturday-night gig that they will have to get out of.
