Favors are done - PIP

Last Friday, we picked 16 pounds of blueberries and then went to my dad's in Connecticut - his kitchen is much bigger than mine and he has great canning equipment - to make jam for our favors.

I thought I'd share in case anyone is looking for a favor idea; now is the time to get great berries and peaches! They say jarred jam has a year shelf life, so you could even get this done now for a spring wedding.

I just did the math and it came to about $1.33/jar, but my dad filled two bigger jars of his own with the rest of the jam after we did about 90 little jars for us. We probably only used about 12 pounds of the blueberries, so I used that amount when calculating cost.

They went from the bushes to the jars within four hours!

Steaming hot after processing.

I'm thinking of decorating something like this, with fabric and a ribbon and then making stickers for the top that would have names and tables on them for escort cards.

Kristen, if you do the fabric tops for the jars, check out the scrape bin at the local fabric store. Really good deals! btw congrats on getting favors done. The blueberry jams look yummy!

Thanks! Great idea. I was going to try Jo-Ann's this weekend or maybe Lorraine's.
