Need Maui Activity Suggestions NOT Involving Water

Hi ladies,

I got a severe burn on my leg this Sunday from boiling water. I went to the ER yesterday and they debrided it, removing all of the blisters, leaving me with a nice open wound that takes up my whole thigh. I've been informed that chances of it being healed enough in two weeks to be able to go swimming are slim to none.

We currently have a snorkeling trip planned in Hawaii that's going to need to be replaced with something else, and now whatever beach time we had allotted can't be spent on the beach (no sunbathing OR swimming :( )

So I need ideas!
We're going to be on Maui and we already are doing the road to hana, a helicopter tour and ziplining. I can't really do biking either, and I probably shouldn't do the zipline tour but I'm not letting this stupid injury take all the fun out of the trip.

Thanks in advance!
Brea

There are lots of good places to go hiking..trails off the road to hana and then also in the west maui mountains. You could also spend a day in the Upcountry doing the botanical garden that is up there, the lavender farm, surfing goat farm and tedeshi winery. Stargazing at the top of haleakala is very cool also.

I believe there is also an aquarium somewhere in south maui.

Brea, I was telling my husband about your accident last night and it dawned on me to tell you this - we only were in the water 2 days out of our entire time in Hawaii cause we were just so darn busy with wedding stuff!  When the wedding was over we still had some stuff we wanted to see and were barely out at all - hopefully you find the same!
Otherwise, the Maui Ocean Center is really nice and has a great gift shop.  The Lavendar Farm (not sure how exciting that would be) and the Winery!

I suggest going upcountry. There's so much to do up there. We went paragliding, then right after we were done, went straight to the Ali'i Kula Lavender Farm for a tour of the farm. The next day, right down the road from the lavender farm is O'o Farm for a lunch tour, which was really fun. We got to pick our own veggies for lunch, learned about what they do at the farm, and the chef from O'o Farm caught some fish and whipped up lunch for our group! So fun! The day after that we did the farm-to-table dinner and dined at O'o Restaurant in Lahaina.

    Also, there's Hale'akala.

    So those are my suggestions:
    - Paragliding
    - Lavender Farm
    - O'o Farm

Sorry to hear about the burn. :( I hope it heals quickly!

The drive to the winery is a good time. Also, I really enjoyed the hike up behind Kapalua. You stop off at the Ritz Kapalua visitor centre, and there's a shuttle that takes you up past the gated community there and drops you off at the trail head, and does a return trip 2 hours later. Alternatively you can hike the 6 miles or so, down the mountain. I really enjoyed it up there!

Beachside couples massage!! I wish we wouldve seen the Iao needle but didnt know about it during our trip. We seriously spent a whole day on our patio drinking and people watching beach goers. You'll have plenty of fun without getting in the water!

So sorry about your injury. I hope you feel better ASAP!
You can go to the Surfing Goat Dairy and the Lavendar farm on the same day. We had so much fun there! I love those places!!!! We went to the Tadeshi winery, too. It is far and the wine is just okay.
You can also tour the Maui Gold pineapple farm.

Everyone already said all of my suggestions. I know you will figure out how to have a great time even if you have to change your plans.

You could do a sunset sail!  There are dinner cruises, and other ones where you just go out sailing.  Ours was a whale watching cruise, but since it's not whale season, I think sitting out on the water drinking mai tais sounds pretty damn good too.  Our guests had a blast, and it gives you a chance to look back on the island in awe too :)

So sorry to hear about your leg, Brea.  Hope you heal quickly!  Definitely agree it's smart to play it safer and ensure it heals well and avoid infection.

So sorry Brea--but I'm sure your trip will be amazing regardless.  At the very least, all the fun dining options could keep you busy.  Hope this helps!

    Wailea
-Go to the end of the road and walk around the old lava field

    Kahului
    -Saturday Markets
-Iao Valley: Botanical gardens & the historic and cultural walks around the needle

    UpCountry
    -Horseback riding
    -Lavender Farm
    -Goat Farm
    -Winery
-Makawao Is a great town just to walk up and down.  Polly's is a yummy Meixcan restaurant at the top of the main street.  We always make a stop there.
-Driving to the top of Haleakala is a must! I've been at sunrise and it's breathtaking.  I hear stargazing and sunset are equally stunning. You don't need a tour--just go.
-Paia is also fun, things like "don't feed the hippies" signs and "hemp" stores abound.  It's also home to "Jaws" an amazing place to park and watch death-defying surfers at play.

    Lahaina
    -Walk around
-Maui Ocean Center is fun, it's between Kahului and Lahaina.  There is also a TINY little amsement park there with bumper boats and mini golf, etc.
-Do a Luau somewhere on the island, there are a couple in Lahaina
-There is also a Cirque du Solei show, Ulalena, in Lahaina that tells the myths and legends of the islands. http://www.ulalena.com/
-There is a great magic and dinner show, Warren and Annabelles'

Wow ladies, thanks for all the suggestions. Jackcody-- what a list!! I'm sending it to Steve now to see what he is interested in :)

I'm hoping that I heal quickly. Right now I'm walking with a serious limp and it hurts to stand up straight. At the very least I hope I don't look like a hobbled over mess in my wedding pictures/video.

Wow, I'm super late on this thread, but Jackcody got everything. I just want to put my vot in for Ulalena, it's amazing!! Espeically since it sounds like you're in pain, if you want an awesome activity that requires no movement, you should definitely go see the show!
