speaking of lighting- how much did you spend?

if you don't mind me asking?

we're looking for quotes on simple draping/lighting for a downtown venue, and i'm not sure what is reasonable.

our caterer recommended art of imagination, so i contacted them first and i'm just waiting to hear back.

thank you!

We were quoted $75 per light through our venue, who also suggests 12-16 totaly lights for the full effect which we thought was somewhat reasonable (we also have to hit a revenue minimum so are looking to add in extras). I also started looking for fabric backdrops and our venue quoted us $1000 for a backdrop with uplights which I thought was a bit pricey so I started to look around. I found this webiste with pricing:

I would be interested to know what Art of Imagination quotes you if you don't mind sharing, just to see if our venue is being realistic  :)

Our venue offers uplighting at $50 a light. We're doing 10 total throughout the room.

This is the company we contracted with for my daughters wedding this past June.  Jay was very easy to work with and was flexible in pairing my daughters ideas and budget.  Although his website states that ceiling draping "begins at $700", Jay was able to accomplish this at our venue at a reduced cost by altering his initial design.  He will walk you through your venue, listen to what you want, consider your budget, and then let you know what he can do within those parameters.  Although he did try to promote some ideas that were not of interest to us or within or budget constraints, we did not feel any pressure at all.  Even though we "passed" on some of his suggestions, his workmanship and professionalism remained outstanding.

I used Deb from Art of Imagination.  I think she had pretty reasonable packages.  Also, her lighting doesn't look "cheesy" to me, if that makes any sense.

I think we spent only about $1300, but it was well worth it.  We had so many comments on it and it looked even better in the photos.

She's a little slow with emails, but she went above & beyond on our day.

  • My fiance and I are having our wedding in a barn and are wanting to hire someone to do lighting.  We received a quote for over $3,000 from a guy that we really liked, but that is out of our price range.  We would really like to work with this specific vendor, do you think it is reasonable to let him know we would like to spend around $1,000, and ask for his opinion on the key areas to light?
