Buy Dress On-Line?

I fell in love with a great dress on TK when my fiance and I started dating. I knew he was the one, I love looking at dresses, blah, blah, blah. The problem is that the dress is from a 2010 collection and was just discontinued in November. I feel like any other dress I try on will not measure up to this one. There are several places on-line I can buy the dress, and for much less than the original price. The dress was originally $850, and the prices I'm seeing online range from $400-$225. This would be a great savings for our budget wedding, especially since it would make getting a reception dress much easier. I am hesitant to buy the dress online for a couple of reasons though. I think my friends and family will be dissapointed to not go dress shopping with me, and I'm worried I won't love the dress on me as much as I do in the picture. Has anyone else delt with a similar situation? Did you end up buying your dress online? How did it turn out? Do you think the risk is worth the potential reward? TIA

Re: Buy Dress On-Line?

  • I believe the general consensus is not to avoid buying dresses on line.

I think many other brides will also say that dresses they thought would be perfect didn't work when they tried them on in-person. This was the case for me too. I would really try and keep your options open and try some on. Good luck!
  • Honestly, I would never buy a dress that I haven't tried on.  Wedding dresses are not like everyday dresses...they are built differently and can really make your body look different depending on the style.

Is there anyway you could find a bridal store that may have this dress in their clearance area (since it is being discontinued) that you can buy directly off the rack once you try it on?

  • Thank you for the imput. I was deffinitly feeling hesitant about ordering something without trying it on. I will be asking dress salons in my area if they have a sample of the favorite dress to try on. And I will make sure I'm not ordering from China. I will probably just go with my mother at first, so I don't have all the pressure of the big group, now that I know I may not find the one I fell in love with first.
