6 or 8 hours?

I know there is a similar post on here right now about this but I think this is a little different. We are trying to figure out how many hours to get our photographer for. The wedding will be starting at 5 and then when have our venue for 4hrs for the reception. So give or take our reception will start about 5:30 and be over about 9:30 unless we pay for an extra hour. So if we stick to schedule that's 4 1/2 hours. If we go with with 6hrs the photographer will be there about 1 1/2 before the wedding starts of if we go with 8 it will be 3 1/2 hours before the wedding starts. How early did you have your photographer get this or are planning on them getting there before the ceremony starts?

It depends, are you getting your bridal party and husband/wife photos before the wedding or after? If not before, then I'd say go with the hour and a half before so they can get you getting ready and some with your own bridal party and him with his. And then the ceremony and by the reception they will have been there 2 hours, then you can do photos for an hour or so after the wedding and then 3 hours of the reception.

I'm getting married at 5pm and having them be at the venue for getting ready pics and pre-ceremony pics at 11am.

I agree--it depends on whether you are doing any pictures before the ceremony.  If you are, then you need 8 hours.  I had mine for 8 hours and she was supposed to be there at 4:00 for my 7:00 pm ceremony.  She actually got there early at 3:00.
