Musician

Hello ladies!!

I was wondering if you could help me in finding a musician/band to perform for my ceremony and cocktail hour.  We are getting married at an old tobacco plantation so I thought it would be perfect to have a blues band there, but I would also like one or two people to do the ceremony as well, which would be all instrumental but more modern music.  We are booking Tom Barrett to DJ the reception, so I have that covered.

Anything would help!  One of the wedding books suggested going to the colleges and see if you can get some of the students to perform.  Has anyone done this?

I'm sorry, I don't know of any musicians.  I love your idea though--tobacco plantation and a blues band sounds perfect!

I am still looking for a venue--would you mind telling me the name of yours? It sounds like something we might be interested in.

    Thanks!

What is your budget?  I learned that if you want a great band, you have to be willing to spend a significant amount of money.  Music is really important to both my family and FI's family, we selected The Heartbeats for our Oct 2011 wedding.  They're a bit pricey, we're spending $7500 to have them for our ceremony + reception, but we've been to weddings where they have performed, and they truly make the party.  I've also heard great things about Jellyroll, though they're more funk than blues.

Jellyroll is really popular locally... Club Phred is really popular... The Grey Street Band is a Dave Matthew's coverband, and they're a really great group of guys.  They did a concert for my work this past April.

I don't know what any of these guys charge though... you'd have to do some googling and see if you can contact any of them.  Wilmington is FILLED with coverbands... just go to Trolley Square any weekend.  On Thursday nights, Sweet Lew and teh 40 Thieves usually plays at the Del Rose.  Cover bands play at Gallucio's, Del Rose, Kelly's Logan House, and Catherine Rooney's.
Paprika: I like it when you burp in my ear. It really turns me on.

Thanks ladies!!  I don't want to spend more than $1000 on it because we already have a DJ.  They would barely be there for 1.5 hours.  Blues is kind of hard to find around here too.

ChadAngela-I'm actually getting married at Mount Harmon Plantation in Cecilton, MD.  It about 15 minutes away from Middletown, DE.  It is seriously in the middle of nowhere, but unbelievably beautiful!  Its surrounded by water and has a historic mansion on the grounds as well.  Let me know if you want more info!  I'd be happy to help.

I like The Fabulous Grease Band, but they are VERY expensive.

What you probably need to do is post this on the Philly board- the girls there are very much into bands and musicians, while the DE girls tend to go for DJs.

Another idea is to ask for ideas on a single musician- a guitar player, or maybe a violin player, perhaps even a trio or quartet.  Those are going to be much less, and since people tend to use them only for ceremonies, priced just for what you are looking for.
