Honeymoon recommendations

Hi girls!! I hope you all are doing well and had a wonderful weekend. So FI and are are coming up on our 1 year mark next week! Im sooo happy!! This year is going by sooo fast! So we are doing pretty good with planning and have major checks!! So I was trying to figure out how much we would set aside for the honeymoon, but I think its important to think about where we are going first. I have no clue where I wanna go. FI and I have never been on a real vacation before, so I want this to be something special and fun. If you girls don't mind, I would really like some recommendations. Thanks!

We're going to Sandals - St. Lucia for 7 nights. We got our room on a really good "sale." It was pretty much half off. We're spending about $5000 (which includes EVERYTHING except plane tickets). Our plane tickets were $508 each. I'm in the Raleigh area and have a great "Honeymoon Specialist" travel agent if you'd like her info. Happy honeymoon searching. :)

Narrow it down for us some.

Do you want to lay on a beach and be fanned and handed rum drinks the whole time?  Do you want to summit a mountain?  Do you want to stay in a place where English is a main language?  Do you like the excitement of big cities?  Does a quiet B&B sound more your style?

How long do you think you'll be able to get away?

We went to Sandals - St. Lucia (Halcyon) & loved it.  The all-inclusive thing just made it all so easy and relaxing.  We didn't have to worry about paying for meals or tipping, etc.  Let me know if you're interested in St. Lucia.

We went to Secrets Capri Riviera in Cancun. I'm SOOOO glad we chose an all inclusive. The food, service, rooms....everything was perfect. We booked through Jennifer from VIP Travel & she was really helpful through the whole process. I highly recommend both.

Im not really sure would like to go to either a beach resort or somewhere like Italy, Paris, etc. FI is a picky eater so it would probably be easier to go to a beach that has several restaurants with lots of different food choices. Im not picky when it comes to a big city or a small town, but FI doesn't like big cities with lots of people (he's a small town boy).
I guess if I had to choose I would prefer clear blue water, margaritas by the pool, and jet skiing as part of my vacation though.

We went to Paris for our honeymoon and it was AMAZING! I wish I could be back there right now.  It's a different option than what a lot of people on here do, but it was so awesome.  We rented an apartment for a week, which was only a few blocks away from the Eiffel Tower.  It was so romantic and fit our personalities perfectly.  They have a ton of apartments in Paris, but they book up really fast! So, if you're even slightly interested, you should email them and ask them about availability, just so you can have options.  They also rent out apartments/flats in London and Italy, in case you're interested in one of those places too.

We had a wonderful experience and I would recommend them a hundred times over. We will definitely be staying in one of these apartments the next time we go back to Paris! :)

I am definitely interested in St. Lucia so if anyone has good info for how to get a relatively inexpensive trip there I would greatly appreciate it! I'm in the Winston area but can do stuff over the phone if necessary Smile

Janece, I love your new sig pic, but it's really large.  Could you add a [ width="300px" ] (or a similar number) in there (without the [ ] brackets) after your photo code?  Because that'd be fabulous.

If you're looking for clear blue water and margaritas it sounds like one of the Caribbean resorts that the other girls talked about might work.  Just don't forget your trip insurance, since it'll be hurricane season.

FI and I were torn between Bermuda and Hawaii, we're going to Hawaii because we think it's more likely we'll be able to swing a Bermuda trip for our anniversary.

I don't know where we're going yet, but FI is using Jennifer from VIP just like Krystal did and has had no problems so far.  He's thinking of booking this week!

We are going to Costa Rica.  We are staying at an all inclusive resort in the Papagayo area.  I am so excited!!  I think the total price we will end up paying for everything will be about $2500 at most.  We are flying into San Jose, renting a car, then driving up the Pacific Coast of the country to our all inclusive resort.  We are diving, ziplining, getting a private tour to nicaragua, and a bunch of other stuff.

We got plane tickets using spirit airlines out of florida to san jose for $400 round trip total!  We are using southwest to get to florida.

Gosh, two weeks.  I am getting all excited!  Good luck!  It was such a hard decision for us, but I am really happy with what we choose.

We are going to Secrets Sanctuary Cap Cana in the DR.  It looks absolutely fabulous...and in 24 days, I'll be there....so I'll be able to review it for ya once I get back.  You should google it though..the place looks FANTASTIC!

You can book your honeymoon at any time but most experts recommend 3 to 6 months out.  Also, make sure to tell them it's your hoenymoon and you may get special rates or upgraded rooms.

FI and I are going to Italy.  Some of the other knotties (CLTKate and Beth) have great recs for less touristy sites there.  I haven't been so we are hitting all the hot spots (Rome, Venice, & Florence).

I find it's the more interesting part of all this planning!  Enjoy the experience!

I would recommend Bermuda based on what you said. You get the beach and all the water stuff, but its very European, so you still get that vibe with the history and restaurants. We stayed at Pink Beaches and we did a plan where breakfast and dinner was included (the food was AMAZING!) Total was around $5,000 to $6,000 and we booked 8 months in advanced. HTH!
