"normal cake"

I havent chosen a baker yet for my cake.  We just want something simple but my FI hates rum cake, or "wet" cake as he calls it.  Only just about anywhere you go they make wedding cakes with rum cake.  Even though he has tasted  some places and thought they were ok - he doesnt want to order it.  He wants regular cake....regular.... ????

I know he means cake like the buttercream cake from Publix - Anyone else have this issue?  Do you know who makes "regular cake" wedding cakes other than publix?

    I'm pretty sure that most of the cake vendors mentioned on this board can make a regular cake like you mentioned.  If he wants the same flavor as Publix, then you may just want to get it from there.

    Publix does have awesome cake!

    well I am getting our cake from a family friend that bakes from home, he does BEAUTIFUL wedding cakes, he alters the actual cake to your liking. We choose his famous vanilla (no rum) but it is moist. If you want the contact info email me michy22 at gmail.com

    I have the same issue, my mom hates those "wet" cakes or Hialeah cakes as my stepdad calls them. So we will see.

    I hate "wet" cake too, but i do like it to be moist.  We are going through divine delicacies and they can make a no rum vanilla I believe.

    I think this "wet cake" is cake that has been frozen and then has been defrosted. Many bakers bake dozens of cakes in advance, freeze them, and then defrost them when they need to fill orders. I recommend that wherever you get your cake, stress that the cake be as fresh as possible, if possible. This may mean that you have to get a more simply decorated cake.
    Definitly check out We Take the Cake. I thought their butter cake was to die for-it wasn't wet at all, just light and fluffy. We ultimately chose this as one of the flavors for our cake.

    lol @ wet cake.

    My cake was Ana Paz and was very good! Not dry but certainly not WET!

    I also used Ana Paz her cake was not wet but it was freshly semi moist. It was perfect. You can always go with Publix I believe older knotties used Publix and they make very nice cakes and are yummy!
