Center City Venues

Hi Ladies!

I am very new to the board and was hoping some of you could help me out! I am recently engaged (yay!) and in the early planning stages. We are looking to get married June 2011 and have just started researching reception sites. I would very much like to get married in Center City (possibly University City) , but I am having trouble finding places that are in my budget (under $115). I just wanted to know if anyone had any ideas or suggestions for me! Thanks in advance Laughing

That's going to be tough in Center City in June.  Are you willing to do a Friday or a Sunday?  That will help..

Doubletree, Sheraton (17th street) and Hilton @ University City have packages starting around $103 (prices from last years so they may have changed) and so did the Hilton Garden inn (13th street?)
Top of the Tower (by the Parkway) cheapest seat down was $105 also

All above, although all inclusive packages, do NOT include taxes.

As PP mentioned a Friday or Sunday wedding might give you more bargaining power.

PS: Congrats on the engagement and welcome to the board!

Top of the Tower does not have a liquor license.  What this means is that although they can sever alcohol, they cannot profit from its sale.  They allow you to bring it in (and they don't care where it comes from) - they estimate about $10-15 a person.  So that 105 package from top of the tower is really about 120 + 8% +20%.  Also Top of the Tower has dinner and dancing in seperate rooms.  This may not bug you, but it was weird to me.

I'd suggest looking into renting an inexpensive space (such as the Ethical Society on Rittenhouse Square, or the German Society) that allows you to bring in your own caterer. Depending on the caterer that you choose, it could definitely be within your budget.

In University City, look into Perelman Quadrangle.

We're getting married at Inn at Penn and we love it so far!

The Doubletree was around the same price and the Holiday Inn on 4th St. was very reasonable as well.  I really loved the location those two places but we really loved everything about Inn at Penn.

Do you live/work/go to school in the city?

Thanks ladies! I just got started and its just a little overwhelming there are so many places and things that you have to consider! I would definitely be open to a Friday wedding. I live in University City and am getting married at St. James (38th and Chestnut) so would like to stay close by! thanks so much for the suggestions and warm welcome :)
