My FMIL just called to ask about wedding gifts. She told me months ago that she already had something for us, AND she is making us a quilt. So why is she getting us more stuff?
(we don't have a registry, just a wishlist on Amazon.ca)
Anyway, she calls, from Canadian Tire, wanting to know what we would like because it is the last day of the sale, and she doesn't have time to check what was already purchased so can I just tell her now. Um, no, not without ruining the surprise of what was already purchased. "What about the mixer? or the coffee maker?". So I realize that I have no choice but to reveal what has already been purchased to prevent her from buying something that was already bought. "Mixer's taken. Coffee maker's taken" I say. "Darn! I really wanted to get you those. Ok what about...." then she proceeds to list off a few things that are not already on our list. I told her any of those is fine. Then she rushed off because she was "on her lunch break and had to hurry."
I'm really dumbfounded and upset. I cannot believe she told us she didn't have time to check the list herself because she wanted to buy it on sale. And that I had to ruin the surprise of all the other items.
And she says "well what about a kettle? did someone purchase the coffee maker with built in kettle?".
I lied and said yes. Because honestly, I don't know which coffee maker was purchased, just that one was purchased, but I didn't want to try to explain that to her.
I know it's not a big deal in the end. At least FI will be surprised. I just can't believe all the things she has done in the past week to piss me off, this being the most recent.
