Bridal party Q???

So I know I should not even be worrying about this yet but it has just been bothering me my FMIL asked me if I was going to have all of the maids where short or long dress's for our June wedding and I said oh probably short and she was kind of surprised we live in Ohio so I guess it's not exactly going to be in the 90's or anything but I just need opinions???

  •  I live in Michigan and it can get pretty hot in June. My wedding is June 22 and I am pretty sure it can be close to 90 here in late June. I am going with short dresses--its not like its going to be snowing out in June.

  • Where do you plan on having the wedding? If there are a lot of outdoors elements I'd consider short dresses, or very light weight long dresses. Everything is indoors (and AC) for us (besides pics) but we're still probably going to go with shorter dresses, because I like how they look.

  • Everything is indoors but I think she was thinking that they were not going to be formal enough if they where a short dress.

  • Choose what dresses fit your wedding style best. Our wedding is June 14th, but it's an evening one so we are having long dresses.

Short dresses can be formal, too.  It depends on the color and fabric, but even so, go with short dresses if that's what you want!  Most of the women who attend will probably be wearing short, cocktail dresses, anyway!  Even in the winter, it seems uncommon to find ladies wearing long dresses these days unless it is a SUPER formal event.

  • Have your girls wear whatever goes with the formality of your wedding.  Honestly, what does it matter to her anyway?

  • I agree w/ emmy...it used to be short dresses automatically meant informal, long meant formal...but now with different designs and fabrics etc a short dress can be just as formal.

  • I am from Ohio too and my Mom said the same thing when I told her I wanted short dresses for the bridesmaids. I asked my maid of honor and she said she liked short better. I also feel like they would be more comfortable. My wedding is all indoors and fairly formal. I just think it was the normal thing to do back then, everyone had long dresses. Do what makes you and your bridesmaids happy!

Same here! I live in Ohio and our wedding is going to be indoors as well. I've seen a lot of beautiful short length dresses in my searches! As long as you're happy and your girls are happy, that's all that matters! <3

  • My wedding is  June 15th, 2013, and I have been asked the same question. The 2 weddings I was in last year we had long dresses, but I am not opposed to the girls having short dresses. I figured I would get a consensus from my BMs to see what they prefer. I am leaning towards finding a general style but letting them pick the details of the dress (some may want strapless, or one shoulder, or halter) I haven't quite got to that stage yet, but that's just what I am thinking.

  • I'm going with short dresses. Our church isn't air conditioned but the reception is. I want them to be as comfortable as possible at the church. I also think shorter dresses are easier to reuse and I want my bm to get the most for their money.
